Position Description: Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.

Major/Essential Functions: Position Description: • Provide faculty leadership for the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical science, clinical reasoning, and clinical skills education throughout the pre-clerkship curriculum. • Serve as course director, co-director, thread/content leader, or in another curricular leadership role as assigned, with responsibility for educational quality, curricular integration, alignment with program objectives and competencies, and review of learner and course outcomes. • Collaborate with basic science and clinical faculty to develop and deliver an integrated curriculum that connects mechanisms of health and disease with clinical manifestations, diagnostic evaluation, clinical decision-making, and principles of patient management. • Provide substantial leadership and instruction in the Medical Skills curriculum, including medical interviewing, history-taking, physical examination, communication, oral presentation, clinical documentation, clinical reasoning, and other foundational patient-care skills. • Design and deliver authentic, evidence-informed learning experiences using methods such as interactive large- and small-group instruction, case-based and team-based learning, demonstration, deliberate practice, simulation, standardized-patient encounters, and other experiential formats. • Provide faculty-level leadership for formative and summative assessment of clinical knowledge, reasoning, and skills, including case-based assessment, direct observation, rubric-guided and narrative assessment, OSCEs, and other performance-based examinations; contribute to blueprinting, case and scoring-tool development, rater preparation/calibration, review of performance data, and assessment quality improvement. • Use student-performance, course-evaluation, and other program data to identify opportunities for curricular improvement and collaborate with course and curriculum leadership to address gaps, redundancy, inconsistencies, sequencing, integration, and intentional reinforcement across the pre-clerkship curriculum. • Provide timely formative feedback, coaching, mentoring, and educational support to medical students, including individualized support for learners requiring additional assistance in developing clinical reasoning or clinical skills. • Participate in the recruitment, orientation, development, and calibration of faculty, residents, teaching assistants, standardized patients, and other instructors, and collaborate with simulation and standardized-patient personnel to promote consistent, high-quality instruction and assessment. • Participate in the development and maintenance of learning objectives, instructional materials, assessments, course documentation, and other curricular resources associated with assigned educational responsibilities. • Engage in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship • Provide clinical service sufficient to maintain clinical competence and support departmental teaching programs • Contribute to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, applicable billing requirements, accreditation expectations, and institutional policies and procedures • Serve the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties • Demonstrate professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Declaration of Faculty Professionalism Responsibility • Uphold and promote the values-based culture of TTUHSC El Paso.

Required Qualifications: • M.D. or D.O. degree, or equivalent • Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency training • Medical License or eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Texas • Board certification by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) corresponding to the candidate's ACGME-accredited residency training • Established record of clinical practice and medical teaching

Preferred Qualifications: • Preferred Qualifications: • Demonstrated experience in undergraduate medical education, particularly in the pre-clerkship phase of the medical curriculum • Training or experience in curriculum development, course administration or leadership, clinical science instruction, clinical reasoning, clinical skills instruction, and assessment of medical students • Experience teaching history-taking, physical examination, oral presentation, clinical documentation, clinical reasoning, and/or other foundational skills required for patient care • Experience with innovative and active teaching methods, such as interactive large- and small-group instruction, case-based learning, team-based learning, simulation, and other applied learning formats • Experience developing or implementing standardized-patient encounters, simulation-based educational activities, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), or other performance-based assessments • Experience providing formative feedback, coaching, mentoring, and/or remediation to medical students • Experience in faculty or instructor development, particularly related to clinical teaching, assessment, feedback, or rater calibration • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with basic science faculty, clinical faculty, educational staff, simulation personnel, standardized patients, and curriculum leadership • Interest and/or demonstrated accomplishments in medical education scholarship • Participation in regional or national organizations or committees devoted to medical education • Emerging or established regional or national reputation in medical education and/or the candidate's clinical discipline for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher
