Unit Manager
Position Description: Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represents the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Major/Essential Functions: • Responsible for managing daily operations of the Dental Learning Center (DLC) Dispensary in support of dental simulation curricula, instructional lesson plans, clinical training, and institutional guidelines. Oversee preparation, distribution, collection, maintenance, and inventory control of dental instruments, supplies, materials, equipment, and fixed assets used within the DLC and associated learning environments. • Coordinate instrumentation preparation and distribution for current and upcoming courses. Inspect, maintain, restore, and organize course cassettes, handpieces, instruments, and related materials before and after course sessions to ensure functionality and readiness for instructional use. Ensure equipment is operational and available to support educational and clinical activities. • Coordinate with Course Directors, department leadership, and faculty to ensure instruments, supplies, equipment, and materials are ordered, stocked, and available before course implementation. Process order forms, verify quantities and materials, obtain DLC Clinical Director approval, monitor vendor orders, track deliveries, follow up on incomplete orders, and maintain vendor communication. • Utilize axiUm and other inventory systems to assign instruments, equipment, and course materials to students and maintain accurate records of dispensary transactions. Maintain annual inventory documentation and fixed asset accountability in accordance with BAELP and institutional requirements. • Monitor inventory levels of dental supplies, equipment, instruments, and materials necessary to support course and clinic operations. Ensure instruments and equipment are cleaned, disinfected, sterilized, maintained, and stored in accordance with infection prevention and regulatory guidelines. Maintain records of sterilization cycles, biological monitoring, equipment maintenance, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documentation. • Follow and enforce protocols to ensure compliance with CDC, OSHA, AAMI, The Joint Commission, and institutional policies and procedures. Maintain and support the DLC operational budget for equipment, supplies, and materials, including monitoring expenditures, recording transactions, and generating reports as required. • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate DLC staff, including onboarding, scheduling, competency assessment, continuing education, and performance management. Provide training on DLC workflows, infection control, instrument processing, inventory systems, and dispensary operations. Ensure staff competency in sterile processing, instrument handling, infection control standards, and sterilization equipment operation. • Assist in coordinating special events hosted within the DLC, including student organization activities, continuing education courses, expanded duties training programs, faculty presentations, and student educational events. • Remain current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position. • Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.). • Personally, and consistently, demonstrate, display and act in accordance with Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree plus three years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.
Preferred Qualifications: • Three to five years of relevant experience in a Dental School dispensary, supporting all clinical education related simulation training. • Experience in academic faculty support, including but not limited to dental skills courses’ preparation in each semester, and course instruments and supplies needs planning, ordering and stock up; student station and locks arrangement, and all involved asset management. • Experience in compliance tracking, data management and reporting.
