Job Title: MachinistJob DescriptionThis role is ideal for an experienced machinist who enjoys hands-on work with manual equipment and precision metal fabrication. You will operate manual mills and lathes, including UF 3 mill machines, to produce high-quality parts from cobalt and steel in a clean, large fabrication job shop environment. The position is on first shift and requires strong blueprint reading skills, solid understanding of tooling, and the ability to independently set up and run machines from start to finish. Responsibilities • Operate manual mills and lathes, including UF 3 mill machines, to produce precision parts from cobalt and steel. • Set up machines for production, including selecting and installing appropriate tooling and workholding devices. • Read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements. • Perform changeovers between jobs efficiently, adjusting setups and tooling as required. • Load and unload materials, manage coolant, and ensure proper machine operation throughout the machining process. • Use drill presses, shears, and other machine shop equipment as needed to support fabrication and machining work. • Monitor machining operations, check parts for accuracy, and make adjustments to maintain tight tolerances and quality standards. • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety procedures and best practices. • Inspect finished parts visually and dimensionally to confirm they meet specifications before moving them to the next stage. • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work, meet production schedules, and resolve machining issues. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience operating manual mills and lathes, with the ability to run machines entirely by hand rather than relying on automated controls. • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematic drawings for machining and fabrication work. • Experience working with cobalt and steel materials, including understanding their machining characteristics. • Ability to perform machine setup, including tooling selection, alignment, and workpiece positioning. • Knowledge of tooling, including proper use, maintenance, and selection for different machining operations. • Experience operating UF 3 mill machines or similar manual milling equipment. • Practical experience in machine shop operations, including machining, machine operation, and fabrication processes. • Ability to safely operate drill presses, shears, and related shop equipment. • Strong attention to detail and ability to hold tight tolerances during machining. • Commitment to following safety procedures in a fabrication and sheet metal environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Prior experience in a large fabrication job shop or sheet metal environment. • Familiarity with coolant management, including loading, unloading, and monitoring coolant during machining operations. • Experience performing job changeovers and adjusting setups to accommodate different parts and materials. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality. • Good problem-solving skills to troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments. • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple jobs and maintain an orderly work area. Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a large fabrication job shop with a sheet metal environment that is kept clean and well maintained. You will work with manual mills, lathes, UF 3 mill machines, drill presses, shears, and other standard machine shop equipment. This is a first-shift position, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The dress code consists of general work clothes such as jeans and a sleeved shirt, along with steel-toed boots for safety. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Salt Lake, UT. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
