About this role

Job summary This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated theatre professional who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care and supporting complex orthopaedic procedures within one of the UK's leading independent charitable hospitals. Working alongside renowned Orthopaedic Consultants and a highly experienced MDT team, you will play a key role in delivering safe, high quality perioperative care while providing leadership and support to colleagues within the theatres.

Main duties of the job This role sits within our Orthopaedic team, where you will spend the majority of your time supporting a varied orthopaedic caseload, including major joint replacement surgery, complex revision procedures, spinal surgery, sports injury surgery and other specialist orthopaedic interventions. However, as part of a collaborative theatre department, you will also be expected to support other specialties as service needs require.

Orthopaedic experience is essential for this role, and applicants must have previous Band 6 experience within a theatre setting. The Role Our Theatre department consists of 10 operating theatres, supporting a wide range of elective and complex surgical procedures across multiple specialties. The Orthopaedic service is a key part of the department, working alongside leading consultants and MDT teams to deliver exceptional patient outcomes. This role sits within our Orthopaedic team, where you will spend the majority of your time supporting a varied orthopaedic caseload, including major joint replacement surgery, complex revision procedures, spinal surgery, sports injury surgery and other specialist orthopaedic interventions. However, as part of a collaborative theatre department, you will also be expected to support other specialties as service needs require. You will work within a modern theatre environment equipped with advanced surgical technology, including robotic surgery. In March 2026, The London Clinic made medical history by becoming the first hospital in the UK to successfully perform remote robot assisted telesurgery, with a surgeon in London operating on a patient in Gibraltar over 2,400km away. This groundbreaking achievement reflects our commitment to innovation and provides our theatre teams with the opportunity to work at the forefront of surgical advancement and emerging technologies. The role offers exposure to complex cases and advanced surgical techniques, providing excellent opportunities to further develop your orthopaedic expertise while working alongside some of the UK's leading surgeons. Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you will act as a senior member of the team, supporting the day to day coordination of theatre activities, mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to the ongoing development of services within the department. Key Responsibilities

Act as the Scrub Practitioner for a wide range of Orthopaedic proceduresSupport Consultants during surgery and undertake Surgical First Assistant duties where qualifiedCoordinate theatre activities to ensure operating lists run smoothly and efficientlyMonitor equipment, implants and surgical consumablesSupport and mentor junior members of the theatre teamPromote best practice, patient safety and clinical excellenceContribute to service improvement initiatives and quality projectsSupport the Theatre Leadership Team with the day to day management of the departmentEnsure the highest standards of perioperative patient care are maintained at all times What We're Looking For We are keen to hear from experienced theatre professionals who can demonstrate: Current NMC or HCPC registrationStrong Orthopaedic Scrub experiencePrevious Band 6 experience within an operating theatre environmentExperience leading and supporting teamsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsThe ability to work effectively in a fast paced surgical environmentA Surgical First Assistant qualification would be advantageous. Qualifications Essential
