AI Transformation Engineering Intern
Job Description: As the AI Transformation Engineering Intern, you will work to explore how AI can improve the way we build and support technology at Best Buy. Your projects will vary across the summer, but expect a mix of hands-on technical work, experimenting with new AI tools and sharing what you learn with the team. We're looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset: curious, comfortable when the path isn't mapped out and quick to suggest a better way of working. This internship will also provide you with the opportunity to develop industry-related skills in a professional environment, build your network with Best Buy employees, and explore a wide range of career paths.
This internship will be available from June to August 2027. This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work on site Monday through Thursday at the Best Buy corporate office in Richfield, Minnesota. You can work virtually from home or another non‑Best Buy location on Friday. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.
This internship does not have the potential to lead to a full-time opportunity. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
Internal Best Buy employees: a limited number of company-sponsored summer housing slots are available near corporate headquarters for hybrid/in-person roles for current Best Buy employees.
What you’ll do • Support AI-focused engineering projects from early idea through hands-on build and testing. • Experiment with new AI tools and share what works with your team. • Collaborate with engineers and partners across teams on assigned project work. • Help document processes, findings and recommendations. • Present your work and what you learned to team members and leaders.
Basic qualifications • Must be pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, graduating between fall 2027 and spring 2030 • Must be able to work in the Richfield, MN corporate office 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday • Must be able to work 40 hours a week Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am-5pm (Central Time) • Must be able to commit to the internship start and end date of 5/31/2027- 8/6/2027
Preferred qualifications • Pursuing a degree in computer science, engineering, information systems or a related field • Exposure to programming through coursework, personal projects or a prior internship • Interest in, or some experience with, AI tools and how they can be applied • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn new technologies • Comfort with ambiguity, shifting priorities and new ways of working
