Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run university between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. In response to the increasingly complex challenges faced by the rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new and cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring “Hub” and “Thrust” to substitute the conventional one characterized by “school” and “department”, facilitating cross-disciplinary integration while vigorously developing emerging and frontier disciplines. The Data Science and Analytics (DSA) Thrust (https://dsa.hkust-gz.edu.cn/), an academic department under Information Hub, HKUST(GZ), now invites applications for a teaching-track faculty position at any rank (Senior Lecture/ Lecturer I / Lecturer II).DSA Thrust advances data science and analytics by unifying statistics, machine learning, optimization, computer science, and their related techniques. It also expands the applications of data science and analytics to solve real world problems and to benefit society. We welcome passionate educators who can contribute to a broad range of teaching responsibilities across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Qualification of Candidates
A Ph.D. degree in a field related to the Data Science and Analytics Thrust, obtained from a university where English is the medium of instruction. Demonstrated capability for effective teaching at the university level, with a clear passion for education and mentorship. Commitment to curriculum development, course innovation, and educational excellence. Ability to contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Example courses may include Introduction to Data Science; Mathematics for Data Science; Probability and Statistics; Machine Learning; Algorithms; Large Language Models (LLMs) and related topics. Experience in higher education teaching is preferred, particularly for applicants to senior ranks.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
Highly competitive salary aligned with international standards, commensurate with qualifications and experience; The typical starting salary (before tax, in RMB) is approximately: Senior Lecturer–¥48,000/month; Lecturer I–¥38,000/month; Lecturer II–¥30,000/month

Appointment to teaching-track faculty (TTF) will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to 3 years with a term review after 3 years of service, and is renewable subject to performance, mutual agreement and funding availability.
