Job description Job responsibilities

Clinical duties relate to the daily care of in-patients undergoing HSCT for haematological and immunological disorders, assessment, work-up for transplant and follow-up of paediatric patients up to 19 years of age with primary immunological and related disorders. The clinical area to be covered is the Paediatric HSCT Unit (10 cubicles), Day Unit and associated wards in the GNCH.The appointee will be asked to participate in the monthly paediatric HSCT long-term follow-up clinic.Along with the other middle-grade doctors on the team, the appointee will be required to deliver case presentations at the weekly paediatric infection and immunology grand round, approximately once a month.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills Essential

Full GMC registration (or eligible to obtain this at the time of application). MRCPCH or international equivalent.

Desirable

Higher Degree. Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) certification. Distinctions, scholarships, prizes. Accreditation on the GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics, with training in Immunology and/or Infectious Diseases.

Clinical Experience Essential

At least 6-months previous experience in the management of children undergoing HSCT, including out of hours. Competent in basic paediatric procedures. Written evidence of satisfactory training to date. Keeps professional knowledge and skills up to date.

Desirable

Experience of caring for children undergoing HSCT for inborn errors of immunity. Experience of delivering critical care (e.g. HDU, PICU). Completed Level 3 Safeguarding training.

Management and administration Essential

Must work well as a team member. Committed to economic use of resources. Flexible approach to service delivery and committed to development. Clear presentation skills. An understanding of Clinical Governance. Commitment to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities. Ability to author and review clinical guidelines.

Desirable

Proven management and administration ability and understanding of management goals. Evidence of roles in leadership / project management. Evidence of having implemented change. Experience in developing and implementing new HSCT strategies. Experience of active role in preparation for JACIE accreditation. Full understanding of JACIE protocols and documentation.

Teaching Essential

Experience of supervising resident doctors. Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Ability to teach clinical / technical / practical skills.

Desirable

Attendance at courses to develop teaching skills. Postgraduate qualification in medical education.

Research Essential

Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings.

Desirable

Evidence of successfully leading clinical studies of in HSCT or outcomes. Publications in the last 2 years. Experience of presentations at National and / or International meetings.

Audit Essential

Active interest in clinical audit.

Desirable

Evidence of having changed practice as a result of audit. GCP training. Evidence of having revisited the audit to assess improvement.
