Job summary

If you have a keen interest, experience or expertise working within Hepatology, this exciting new role could be for you. This is an exciting opportunity within Newcastle Hospitals Hepatology service who have recently acquired IQILS status. Over the last 4 years there has been investment in the nursing team across all areas including Alcohol Misuse, Auto Immune Hepatitis, Hepatic Cell Carcinoma, and Cirrhosis.

The focus of this role is Liver Cirrhosis, and the working week includes nurse led clinics, clinical interventions, including paracentesis drainage. It also offers psychological and emotional support to our liver cirrhosis patients and their family and loved ones from diagnosis throughout their journey and sometimes supporting End of Life Care. This involves patients both at home and in the acute Trust.

This Cirrhosis nurse role is a relatively new development and constantly evolving. This is an opportunity to help shape this service and help it strive forward to provide a continued standard of excellence to our patients.

Main duties of the job

This role is corporate standard hours working from 08.30-16.30. Patients are seen within both a ward and out-patient environment and include a full assessment of the patient utilizing Clinical skills and History Taking framework. There is great emphasis from the team for collaboration and close working with our consultants who have continued to provide support and training.

The successful applicant will have an induction period, shadow all members of the team, and be supported with university applications and further training needs for continued professional development. We also provide an education programmer for students' nurses and support newly qualified nurses with spoke days.

This is with the goal of attaining Band 7 once competent in all elements of the role. For those wishing to approach this as a Band 7 entry, all relevant experience and qualifications will be considered.

Within the sphere of specialist practice:

Is working towards advanced knowledge and skills within specialist sphere of practice. Contributes to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients. Support the development of nursing practice within the specialist field and contribute to the body of nursing knowledge. Contributes to training and education within specialist area. Band 7

Meets All Band 6 Criteria Essential

oRegistered nurse (appropriate to branch) oCurrent NMC registration oDiploma plus specialist qualifications / experience within specialist area; prepared to take degree level study oMeets Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for student supervision and assessment (formally Mentorship) if relevant to role oCurrent driving licence if relevant to role oSome post registration experience within related specialist area of practice oExtended clinical practice underpinned by training supervision & assessment oKnowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context oHas understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding oEvidence of on-going continuous professional development oGood IT skills oEffective report writing skills oAble to work independently and as a member of a team oEffective organisation and time management skills

oDegree in health related subject oResearch or audit experience oEvidence of contribution towards education and training programmes oChange management skills and involvement in project work
