We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a full time consultant (10PA) in Restorative Dentistry to join the team at Newcastle Dental Hospital to support us with our specialist advisory and treatment services.
We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician with experience in multidisciplinary working who will support the endodontic services including dental trauma, head and neck oncology, implant, developmental and cleft service as well as contribute to general restorative diagnostic clinics. We envisage the post to focus on Endodontic services including dental trauma and fixed-prosthodontics. The post holder will be expected to undertake new patient activity and treatment to support departmental patient activity targets. They will be expected to provide consultant cover as and when necessary and deliver clinical dental education to trainees, undergraduates and postgraduate students.
Main duties of the job
The primary aim of this 1.0 WTE appointment as Consultant in Restorative Dentistry (10 programmed activities) is to join the existing well-integrated team to provide consultant-led service at tertiary level to the population of the North-East and beyond. This is a permanent post, to support the delivery of specialist services in Restorative Dentistry within the Dental Directorate. Multi-disciplinary clinics also run jointly with other dental specialties to treat head and neck cancer, hypodontia, chronic pain, cleft lip and palate, special care dentistry and patients transitioning from paediatric dentistry to adult care. The successful applicant will be based at the Dental Hospital and provide a comprehensive diagnostic, treatment, and multidisciplinary service to support departmental patient activity targets. They will contribute to the consultant cover rota and offer clinical dental education to junior staff, postgraduates and undergraduates in the department.
Candidates are required to hold a primary dental qualification, be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC), have passed the intercollegiate specialist fellowship examination qualification (or show equivalence) in Restorative Dentistry from one of the surgical Royal Colleges. In addition, the successful candidate should be on the GDC specialist list in Restorative Dentistry or within 6 months of expected date of CCST.

Clinical Experience Essential
Evidence of current and significant experience in Restorative Dentistry including treatment of endodontics including dental trauma, head and neck cancer patients, hypodontia and cleft patients, and advanced restorative procedures Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty. Ability to provide high quality specialist care for patients seen and treated and an expert clinical opinion. Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre.
Desirable
Significant and current experience of working within multidisciplinary teams and planning and providing dental implant treatment for oncology and hypodontia patients. Use of evidence-based practice can demonstrate through knowledge of the relevant literature
Management and Administration Experience Essential
Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty. An understanding of Clinical Governance. An understanding of the role of Transformation in the NHS

Teaching Essential

Research Essential
Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings. Research/critical review of literature. Publications in the last five years.

Audit Essential
Evidence of participation in clinical audit.
Desirable
Evidence of having changed practice as a result of audit. Evidence of having revisited the audit to assess improvement.
