Job summary
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust are seeking a Mechanical Fitter/ Plumber/ Maintenance Engineer to join our busy Estates Department to perform multi-skilled tasks which can be complex and/ or non-routine.
This involves working on hot and cold-water systems, heating systems, control of water hygiene and fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment.
The successful candidate will be required to join the On-call Rota after sufficient training and must be able to respond to emergency calls within 45 minutes of leaving home and arriving at the hospital base.
Working 37.5 hours per week and based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford; you may however be required to work at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital or any other buildings the Trust has responsibility to maintain.
Main duties of the job
The role is for a skilled maintenance technician who mainly works on mechanical engineering tasks but also helps with other building and electrical jobs. You will look after heating, plumbing, and other systems across hospital sites, making sure equipment is safe and working well. The job involves finding and fixing faults, carrying out repairs, and sometimes designing or installing new work. You will work both on your own and with the wider team and may step in to support managers when needed. The role includes being part of an on-call rota, responding to emergencies within 45 minutes. Flexibility is important, as you may work at different sites, cover shifts, or assist other trades when required

NVQ 3, completed recognised apprenticeship in relevant base trade OR relevant experience within trade specialism

Health and Safety Qualifications or modules of technical qualifications (IOSH One Day Working Safely, CSCS Gold card). City and Guilds 2391/4/5 Inspection & Testing
Experience & Knowledge Essential
Background of mechanical work in the building industry/maintenance work. A clear understanding of health and safety procedures in theory and practical application.
Desirable
signifcant experience post apprenticeship. Relevant experience of NHS hospital environment. Installation and/or maintenance experience in an industrial or domestic or commercial setting. PLC knowledge and experience
