Job summary

We're looking for 4 Consultants Psychiatrists to join our team of life savers and life changers who share our values to help us provide high quality care for the patients, carers, families and communities we serve. We specialise in NHS mental health and learning disability services and we're proud to be the difference improving lives every day.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our acute inpatient and community mental health teams. Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to preference and negotiate bespoke job plans across the below services:

Our brand new Dovedale 2 Ward

Our Community Mental Health Teams

Our Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team

Main duties of the job Leadership/Management Duties

Attendance at Monthly Governance meetings and Leadership meetings (which will be aimed to be provided as protected time to enable candidates to provide crucial clinical leadership into operations of the service which will ultimately impact patient care and efficient team functioning).

To review and undertake QIP / Service improvement work as directed by service needs.

In addition, Candidates will be supported with any other special interest area of work they may have / would like to hold.

Clinical Duties

The below is subject to requirements of the individual service(s) the successful applicant will be working within.

Provide senior medical leadership within your clinical team(s).

Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings.

Medical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.

Medical/psychiatric assessments for care planning and risk assessment

Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions to aid recovery.

Medical/psychiatric assessments for care planning and risk assessment.

Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions to aid recovery.

Assessment for people detained under the Mental Health Act.

Attendance at Tribunal hearings for people detained under Mental Health Act.

Completion of administrative tasks necessary for clinical responsibilities.

A total of 37 sessions is available across the below services to be mutually agreed with successful applicants through a preferencing process:

Maple Ward (10 sessions)

Dovedale 2 Ward (7 sessions)

CMHT (10 sessions)

Home Treatment Team (10 sessions)

Successful applicants will have office accommodation, with IT support for e-mail, internet access and secretarial support. The post holder will be issued with all required IT equipment including a laptop and mobile phone as well as any reasonable adjustments that may be required.

Person Specification

Training and Qualifications Essential

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice. Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion. Certificate of Completion of Training in Psychiatry (Higher trainees should be within six months of attainment at the time of the interview) or CESR equivalent. Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approved. Approved Clinician (AC) status / eligibility to be on the AC register.

Desirable

MRCPsych or equivalent. MD, Other professional qualification (e.g. MSc) Coaching training Leadership training

Experience Essential

Experience in Adult Psychiatry including working within a community and/or inpatient service. Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team. Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates. Evidence of experience in medical audit and understanding of principles of clinical governance

Desirable

Experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in a community or inpatient mental health team. Experience leading a community mental health service. Teaching/presentation experience (e.g., conference presentation, EBM, research experience) to a range of audiences. Experience networking and building collaborative working relationships across a range of stakeholders / other clinical specialisms to improve patient care pathways and experience.

Experience Essential

Collaborative, inclusive and service user focused approach to assessment and formulation / diagnosis in a community setting. Clear, evidence-based approach to risk assessment & management. Ability to appraise complex, multi-faceted information from various sources and bring together into a shared, coherent understanding. Creative and collaborative approach to planning and delivering interventions and care plans. Strong, compassionate leadership skills. Ability to supervise and proactively lead junior staff. Ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice. Trauma informed clinical approach.

Desirable

Knowledge of best practice and evidence relating to General Adult Psychiatry Experience of involvement in service development. Leadership training / knowledge. Performance / governance focused and interested. Practical experience of research. Aligned to the Trust's mission and committed to its values.
