We are seeking a friendly and focussed Team Deputy Manager to join our dedicated team where our focus is to provide psycho-education to those who experience mental health difficulties.
The team is seeking someone who is a visible, confident, operational leader for STEP, focussing on the day to day management and leadership of the service alongside the Team Manager.
We offer a positive and quality mental health provision to the people of Sheffield. This includes the development and facilitation of courses within our core contract with Sheffield City Council whilst supporting the work model into the Primary and Community Mental Health Team (PCMH).
You will have the unique opportunity to support the Team Manager in overseeing our training programmes ensuring that we deliver the highest quality service to our learners/clients.
Your leadership will be crucial in guiding a diverse team, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. You will collaborate closely with colleagues, learners/clients and other stakeholders to create effective strategies that enhance educational and mental health outcomes.
As the Deputy Manager you will play an important part in assessing performance metrics, implementing innovative solutions and embracing best practices.

STEP offers a range of recovery and preventative focussed educational programmes for people with needs related to their mental health.

Job description Job responsibilities
1.To ensure that Trust and local Policies and Procedures are promoted and implemented within STEP.
2.To create, develop and maintain links and positive relationships with other mental health services and other partners, and work in collaboration with them, providing specialist knowledge and advice where necessary.
3.To support the Team Manager to ensure effective and cohesive service delivery and development, and to co - produce the key performance reports.
4.To promote the service positively in all arenas, co - producing and distributing written and electronic local service information to all stakeholders.
5.To provide management supervision and appraisal to team members, including developing individual staff performance, and training and development issues.
6.To have responsibility for the planning and development of course work programmes. Followed by regular performance reviews which evaluate the programme in line with required client / recovery-based outcomes.
7.To ensure that all recordings, activity recordings, and outcome monitoring formats are accurately and effectively recorded, within a reasonable timescale, and compile reports as required.
8.To ensure the effective use and deployment of staff resources, and financial resources, in terms of direct service delivery.
9.To work with the manager to ensure the service budgets are utilised and monitored effectively.
10.To actively participate in student placement co-ordination as appropriate.
11.To participate in the recruitment and selection of staff, including planning and overseeing of induction programmes, and identifying training requirements for the role.
12.To promote and develop cohesive and effective teamwork practices, ensuring whole team work towards the service aim.
13.To communicate effectively through the Trust reporting, recording, and information systems.
14.To work alongside the manager to ensure that statutory duties are complied with, and that the service is operated within current legislation, liaising with appropriate Trust departments as necessary in areas such as Health and Safety, Employment, Data Protection, Risk Dept.
15.To ensure that risk assessments are carried out where required, both for individual service users, and for all work done in the community and external venues.
16.To attend all relevant meetings, including staff team meetings, governance meetings, and other meetings which progress the service, as defined by the manager.
17.To receive process and monitor all referrals to the service, maintaining waiting lists when required.
18.To manage the building base and ensure the necessary Health & Safety procedures and systems are developed and maintained.
19.To manage and liaise with the team administrator(s).
20.To manage, alongside the team manager the team accountability systems, e.g. sickness absence, flexi system, diaries, A/L. and create and maintain other systems which underpin the service, ensure Quality Performance, and maximise efficiency.
21.To facilitate the development of staff and procedures for the service delivery.
22.To develop project work, as defined by the Team Manager, in line with the Service Specification. This may include: identifying areas of unmet need, promoting service user involvement, developing volunteering opportunities, customer feedback and evaluation, partnership work, new work.
23.To undertake any other duties which may be allocated by the Manager within the general scope of the post and appropriate to the grade.
Person Specification
Training and Qualifications Essential
oRecognised management qualification in Health and Social Care related field, or managerial experience underpinned by other forms of training/learning e.g. long or combination of short courses or structured self-study.
Desirable
oEducated to degree level or equivalent level of with in-depth experience to post graduate level within Education, Learning or Development oRegistered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist
Knowledge and Skills Essential
oKnowledge and understanding of current policy issues and their implications for the services oUnderstanding of risk issues including Clinical and Health and Safety oKnowledge of fostering a culture of trust and transparency, with a workforce committed to continuous improvement Relevant experience of management and leadership of both staff and service delivery oExperience of managing/supervising others oAbility to motivate staff to develop practice and embrace change. Experience Essential
oProven experience of service delivery within a Mental Health Service setting, Ability to be flexible in a pressured environment and have an adaptable approach to training deliveryparticularly education focussed. oExperience of planning, designing and delivering a variety of education and development sessions, ensuring that they meet evidence based practice, with a focus on leadership/management and soft skills oKnowledge of blended learning design including the use of e-learning packages and their use in learning and development oExperience of using improvement methodologies, evidence based best practice and learning from other organisations to implement new systems and ways of working oAn understanding of social exclusion, and how it affects this client group oExperience and knowledge of implementing policies and procedures. oExperience of monitoring and recording budget activity. oExcellent communication skills and the ability to work with people at all levels of the organisation oExcellent problem-solving skills oExperience of identifying and supporting learners who require additional support using a wide range of development interventions oAbility to undertake evaluation of learning programmes in order to determine effectiveness and relevance of content
