We are looking for two Finance Business Partners to join our Finance team at The NHS Alliance.
As a Finance Business Partner you will work closely with the Assistant Director of Finance to ensure finance is at the heart of decision making across the organisation. There are two Finance Business Partners in the organisation, each responsible for a portfolio of business units.
You will:
Act as the main finance contact for a portfolio of business units, supporting Budget HoldersProvide financial insight, reporting and variance analysis, including monthly outputsLead budget setting, forecasting and in-year monitoring to drive value for moneyManage month-end processes and oversee pay forecasting, payroll checks and workforce modellingSupport income management, build financial capability across teams, and improve reporting and processesThis is a hands on, outward facing role. You will build strong partnerships with Budget Holders, provide clear financial insight and challenge, and support colleagues to understand and use financial information effectively to deliver the organisations objectives.
Main duties of the job
Please note, this role is agile with home working with either London or Leeds office base. Salary is £46,822 per annum (plus £4000 London weighting if applicable).

The Finance Business Partner supports the Assistant Director of Finance by ensuring finance is at the heart of decision making, increasing financial knowledge, awareness, and transparency across the organisation, with a focus on forging good working relationships with Budget Holders. There are two Finance Business Partners in the organisation, each responsible for a portfolio of business units.
The postholder will be very visible across the organisation, providing informative and effective financial insight, analysis and challenge to programme leads, Budget Holders, and Directors. The post holder will be required to understand the objectives and work content of their business units and the respective Budget Holders by undertaking a partnership with them, enabling them to make sound decisions on new and existing work. This advice will be documented and interpreted into sensible, sustainable, and consistent financial recommendations that are in the best interests of the charity and that support the group strategic plan, group strategic objectives and financial governance policies.

Act as the primary finance contact for an assigned portfolio of business units (c. 2530 Budget Holders), building strong relationships and providing finance support, constructive challenge and clear recommendations.Work to the Finance Business Partner Framework to provide timely financial insight, analysis and commentary, including supporting the monthly Finance Report and explaining variances with Budget Holders and the Assistant Director of Finance.Coach and upskill non-finance colleagues, including delivering regular workshops on budgeting/forecasting, and maintain ongoing communications (e.g., Oracle posts/emails) to improve financial understanding and transparency.Manage financial planning cycles for all projects in the portfolio, including annual budget setting (including recharges), quarterly forecasting to tight deadlines, and in-year monitoring against budget/forecast to embed value-for-money.Deliver key month-end activities, including posting journals (accruals/deferrals and recharges) to ensure accurate period recognition and building or updating reports.Own pay forecasting and establishment controls, including maintaining the establishment tracker, approving employee/vacancy change forms, checking payroll journals, and completing ad hoc pay modelling.Support contract and grant income management by working with Contracts & Procurement and Budget Holders to set up contracts/projects, maintain billing schedules, ensure timely invoicing, validate pricing templates (overheads/surplus), and monitor restricted funds and funder requirements.Administer and continuously improve management reporting systems and documentation (IRIS Analytics report library and users/training; liaison with IRIS support/consultant), while maintaining finance procedures, responding to queries, managing Finance SharePoint filing, and keeping CPD up to date.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
1. At least three years demonstrable experience in a similar role, incorporating budgeting, forecasting, and business partnering in a complex organisation with multiple income streams. 2. Strong communication skills to be able to support and explain complex financial matters to a wide range of non-financial staff members, with the confidence to challenge and influence. 3. Highly numerate, analytical and commercially minded with ability to insightful analysis as to what the numbers are saying at a departmental level. 4. Intermediate Excel skills (Pivot tables and V-Lookups). Experience with Finance systems and report writing. 5. Organised and pro-active, able to run planning cycles to meet tight deadlines.
Desirable
1. Part or fully qualified accountant e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA. 2. Experience in a charity.
