About this role

Job summary Trust doctor/ Clinical Fellow (ST3-5 equivalent) in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

We are inviting applications to fill our Trust doctor/Clinical Fellow (ST3-5 equivalent) vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This post is fixed term for 12 months.

Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice by the intended start date.

The post holder will work at a level equivalent to that of a ST3+ trainee. Applicants must have completed Foundation competencies either as part of the UK Foundation programme or demonstrate equivalent training. Applicants should ideally have experience at working at a ST3+ level for a minimum of 1 year ideally within the UK. Basic Life Support training is essential.

Main duties of the job The above post is suitable for doctors wishing to gain clinical experience at a ST3+ level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The post offers the successful candidate a wide range of experience in all areas of the specialty. Whilst this post is not recognised for training, the appointee will be supported by a Clinical Supervisor to meet their career and educational goals.

The post holder will contribute to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology inpatient and outpatient services as well as being part of the second on call rota with an on call frequency of 1 in 10. The post holder will predominantly work at the SJUH and LGI sites. Duties will involve but will not be limited to working on the labour ward, reviewing obstetrics and gynaecology (including early pregnancy) emergencies and looking after antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology inpatients as well as attending antenatal and gynaecology clinics. There will also be opportunities to attend elective gynaecology and obstetrics theatres.

The post holder will also be encouraged to take part in departmental teaching and quality improvement work.

Our Team The gynaecology service is predominantly based at St James University Hospital (Chancellor Wing) and some elective gynaecology work including clinics, day case and overnight theatre and hysteroscopy also takes place at Wharfdale hospital.

The fertility service is based at Seacroft Hospital.

The maternity service is based at St James University Hospital (approximately 4,500 deliveries per year) and Leeds General Infirmary (approximately 5,000 deliveries per year).

What you will bring to the role Essential criteria

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills

Have completed their post-graduate training at least to a level of an ST3 specialty doctor or equivalent in obstetrics and gynaecology Have valid GMC Registration at the time of application Familiarity with UK health system and NHS Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs. Applicants must have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as assessed by the GMC Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills.

Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems Ability to prioritise clinical need Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement initiatives At least 1 year experience working at middle grade (ST3+) in UK Be competent at Lower segment caesarean section and non-rotational operative vaginal delivery.

Qualifications

MBBS or equivalent medical degree qualification Completion of Foundation competencies or equivalent Basic Adult Life Support training within past 12/12 MRCOG Part 1 Competencies equivalent to ST3 training

Experience

Be able to provide complete details of their employment history Have evidence that their career progression is consistent with their personal circumstances Have evidence that their present level of achievement and performance is commensurate with the totality of their period of training Shows initiative/drive/enthusiasm (self-starter, motivated, shows curiosity, initiative) Demonstrable interest in, and understanding of, a career in obstetrics and gynaecology as practiced in the UK
