We are excited to able to offer an opportunity to join the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust on the Laurel Suite- Oncology/Haematology SACT/Chemotherapy day unit at Stepping Hill Hospital. As a Trust we are passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. To be able to achieve this we are looking for a caring, hard working and enthusiastic staff nurse (Band 5).

The Oncology/Haematology SACT/Chemotherapy day unit cares for patients and their families throughout their cancer journey providing individualised care and treatment from start to finish. We have gained the Christie Quality Mark for patient experience and are a dynamic and friendly team.

Main duties of the job

To provide nursing care and advice to patients requiring treatment for solid tumours and malignant and non-malignant haematological disorders.

Treatments include administration of IV , SC, IM and oral SACT. Other Anti-Cancer treatments and supportive treatments are also given on the unit, such as; Monoclonal Therapies, IV Immunoglobulins, Blood and Platelets transfusions, Bisphosphonate and infusions, Venesections, IV Fluids.

The post holder must possess the ability to work unsupervised following competency assessment and co-ordinate the oncology/haematology day case unit in the absence of more senior staff.

Education and Qualifications Essential

Registered General Nurse Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification

Desirable

Evidence of post registration education in issues relating to oncology/haematology/chemotherapy/cancer care. UKONs Experience and Sign Off

Knowledge Essential

Good computer/IT skills Excellent communication skills at all levels Problem Solving Skills Good telephone manner Knowledge of NHS Policies and Procedures

Previous experience of working within an Oncology/Haematology or chemotherapy setting

Venepunction & Cannulation Confident and able to deliver Intravenous therapies/subcutaneous injections/IM injections Ability to work under pressure on a busy day unit and to organise/prioritise workload and experience of working to deadlines

Desirable

Competent to access and care for central venous access devices ie Portacaths/Picc lines Blood Product administration Ability to independently carry out patient toxicity assessments and manage patient side effects of treatment Ability to recognise and act on signs of Sepsis/ Hypersensitivity SACT treatment reactions rapidly and in a calm and professional manner.
