Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Higher Biomedical Support Worker to join the Cellular Pathology Department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This fulltime, permanent role sits within one of the largest and most progressive pathology services in the UK, supporting the delivery of highquality diagnostic services across multiple specialist areas.
Main duties of the job Based within Cellular Pathology, the role is integral to the routine and complex laboratory workflows that underpin patient diagnosis and care. The role involves working with human tissue samples, bodily fluids and laboratory chemicals.
We are looking for an individual with previous laboratory experience, excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a fastpaced environment. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys teamwork, is keen to develop their skills, and wants to be part of a forwardthinking, innovative department. You will be expected to undergo some in house training to attain competence within the laboratory.
The department operates Monday to Saturday 7:30 to 7:30 with standard day and extended day shifts.

Cellular Pathology at LTHT is a large, diverse and welcoming department, bringing together biomedical support workers, biomedical scientists, advanced practitioners, anatomical pathology technicians, pathologists, and administrative teams. We process approximately 60,000 surgical cases per year, alongside noncervical cytology, andrology, autopsy, molecular, and specialist pathology services, offering a varied and stimulating working environment.

We were the first department in the UK to introduce fully automated sectioning and make extensive use of digital pathology and advanced processing technologies. As an IBMSaccredited training laboratory, we actively support staff development and encourage involvement in service improvement, transformation, and new ways of working. What you will bring to the role You will work as a member of the departmental team, collecting, receiving and assisting in the processing of clinical diagnostic cellular pathology specimens for testing.
You will have:
Experience working in a laboratory or diagnostic environment
Ability to perform routine and more complex laboratory tasks, sometimes under supervision
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accuracy and quality
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Effective communication skills and a flexible approach to work
Willingness to undertake inhouse training to achieve laboratory competency
Ability to work independently and as part of a large multidisciplinary team
Enthusiasm for contributing to a highquality, patientfocused service
Within the team you may be required to organise the tasks of support workers and demonstrate relevant job related tasks to new or more junior staff. You will contribute to general departmental management, for instance, by assisting in the ordering, receipt and control of consumables.
