Band 8A Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist - Self Harm & Risk Case Management (CAMHS)

Sutton CAMHS | 30 hours per week | Fixed term -12 month

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Mental Health Nurse to join Sutton CAMHS as a Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist leading on self-harm and risk case management.

The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment, formulation and intervention for children and young people presenting with self-harm, suicidal ideation, emotional dysregulation and complex risk. They will offer consultation and clinical leadership across the service, support safeguarding and risk management processes, provide supervision to colleagues, and contribute to service development.

Main duties of the job

We are particularly interested in applicants with skills and experience in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) or delivering DBT-informed interventions. This role will support the development of psychologically informed practice across the service and promote evidence-based approaches to managing risk and emotional distress.

Applicants must have:

Current NMC registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse.

Significant CAMHS experience.

Extensive experience working with self-harm, suicidality and complex risk.

Strong risk assessment, formulation and care planning skills.

Experience of clinical leadership and supervision.

DBT training or experience delivering DBT-informed interventions.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post is located in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Directorate of Southwest London and St Georges Mental Health NHS Trust. The Trust is responsible for the provision of mental health services to the population of Wandsworth, Merton, Sutton, Kingston and Richmond, as well as providing a range of specialist services to a wider, regional and national catchment area.

Since a major reorganisation of CAMHS services in 2014, the CAMHS directorate has existed as locality Tier 3 teams based in each borough, and dedicated services (for eating disorders, complex learning disability, and neurodevelopmental assessment) based at Springfield Hospital.

All teams are multi-disciplinary with an evolving skill set. Skills evolution is led by expressed patient need (focusing on patient value) captured through the use of up-to-date information system able to report clinical outcomes in line with the CYP IAPT programme.

This post in part of the development of CAMHS teams to promote wellbeing and management of self-harm together with our partners e.g. schools, local authority teams

The post holder will work closely with CAMHS multi-disciplinary, integrated services including Single Point of Access, Tier 3, schools, Local authority professional, CECS

The directorate uses IAPTus as the electronic clinical record (ECR) and information system

First degree in mental health nursing Professional registration with NMC Evidence of relevant professional development

Further post registration training in child and adolescent mental health Supervision training An appropriate professional qualification to supervise students in training. (e.g. ENB 998 or Practice Teacher Award) A postgraduate qualification in a therapeutic modality relevant to child mental health.
