Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic part-time (0.6 WTE) Speech and Language Therapist to join our Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team. The post holder will work within a supportive multidisciplinary team, contributing to the assessment and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The role will include co-facilitating assessments alongside experienced clinicians, providing Speech and Language Therapy input and undertaking appropriate clinical responsibilities within the team.
The successful candidate will be supported to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge in neurodevelopmental assessment, including opportunities to develop greater autonomy and lead aspects of the assessment process as their experience grows.
Clinical supervision and line management will be provided by the Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist or Clinical Psychologist within the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team.
Main duties of the job
CAMHS Neurodevelopmental service supports children, young people and their families with neurodevelopmental presentations. Our MDT service is made up of disciplines including Psychiatry, Clinical and Counselling Psychology, Nurses, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Positive Behaviour Support.
The service offers assessments and pre/post diagnosis interventions for children and young people presenting with neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. ASD and ADHD) including formulation and diagnosis where appropriate, as well as recommendations and signposting to our other services provided by partner organisations and services.
CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Team serves the population of Wandsworth, Merton, Sutton, Kingston and Richmond. We value inclusivity in our service and are actively working in partnership with community organisations and families/carers to reach young people who find 'traditional' routes of neurodevelopmental services not accessible to them. Job description Job responsibilities
Key aspects of the role include:
Contribute to the delivery of high-quality neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people referred for assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), working alongside experienced clinicians within the multidisciplinary team.
Undertake and co-facilitate assessments within their scope of practice, contributing Speech and Language Therapy expertise to the wider diagnostic process.
Gather, review and integrate relevant clinical information to support assessment, formulation and diagnostic decision-making within the multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to the development of appropriate, evidence-based recommendations following assessment, ensuring these are responsive to the individual needs of children, young people and their families.
Coordinate and manage allocated aspects of the assessment pathway for children, young people and families on their caseload, ensuring effective communication and timely progression through the service.
Work in accordance with an agreed job plan, including expected levels of clinical activity and throughput.
Identify, assess and manage clinical risk appropriately, in line with team, Directorate and Trust policies and procedures, escalating concerns where required.
Work in accordance with relevant professional, clinical and ethical standards, maintaining high standards of clinical practice, record keeping and confidentiality.
Use appropriate screening, assessment and outcome measures to inform clinical decision-making, contribute to service evaluation and support continuous improvement.
Actively seek and respond to feedback from children, young people and families to support a positive experience of the assessment pathway.
Engage in clinical supervision, reflective practice and continuing professional development, with support to broaden their knowledge and skills in neurodevelopmental assessment and progressively take greater responsibility within the assessment process.

Training & Qualifications Essential
Registered Speech and Language Therapist Training relevant to neurodevelopmental assessment
Desirable
Training as part of a CYP IAPT collaborative in a recognised evidenced based approach Formal training in assessment tools for autism (e.g., 3DI, ADOS, ADI-R)
Experience Essential
