About this role

Job summary

We are recruiting an Occupational Therapist (OT) with expertise in Older persons careto work within the Liaison Psychiatry Service in the acute general hospital. Applicantswill require knowledge and experience of managing dementia and other mental healthdiffculties commonly found in Older people. Knowledge Of older people's physicalhealth problems is also required.

The role involves autonomously carrying out genericmental health assessments and treatments while working dosely with the OlderPeople's Specialists within the service. We are also able to provide some short-termfollow up care/home visits within the community.This role provides a mental health OT specialist within the general hospital.

The postinvolves fostering staff relationships and supporting and working closely with ourphysical health colleagues and the care of the elderly wards.

You will, wherenecessary, carry out joint OT assessments to support the physical OT's. The OTservice within the trust uses the Model of Human Occupation to shape its assessmentsand overall approach

Main duties of the job

You must be comfortable working flexibly, both autonomously and in a team. Teachinginformally and formally is part Of the role. Continuous Professional Development andregular professional supervision are a priority for the Trust.

You will receive regular supervision working within this role.The successful candidate will join our Trust wider Occupational Therapy service which includes our acute and urgent care, community, CAMHS and All age eating Disorders and Specialist service lines. We meet quarterly for Occupational Therapy trainingevents which have recently included training around sensory profiling and MOHO.

We have regular OT forums for professional support and development and can arrangestaff to shadow OTs in Other services for development opportunities

Job description Job responsibilities

To manage a caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. To carry out joint OT assessments to support the physical health OTs when required. To provide a variety of interventions including direct clinical work with patients, support for families and carers and consultation across the wider professional networks. To provide short-term follow up care for patients in their own homes when required. To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services within the identified service, holding responsibility for defined projects. To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust OT Service. To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement. To promote Recovery & Social Inclusion. To act as the designated Disability Champion, leading the multi-disciplinary team in Disability Equality matters within the service and other areas as required. To contribute from an occupational therapy perspective to individual care plans To maintain accurate and timely clinical records To participate in multidisciplinary meetings bringing the Occupational therapy perspective to MDT discussions

Person Specification

Education, Training & Qualifications Essential

Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy Registration to practice in UK

Experience Essential

Fieldwork experience in physical and mental health settings at undergraduate level. Experience of multidisciplinary working at undergraduate level

Desirable

Experience of individual & group work Experience of using mental health services as a service users or carer/relative/friend of a service user

Knowledge & Skills Essential

Good interpersonal skills with service users and colleagues Basic IT and word processing skills
