Job summary An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Neonatal Nurse to join our Neonatal Surgical Outreach Service as a Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is a key Band 7 role providing clinical leadership and expert specialist care for infants and families requiring neonatal surgical care across the neonatal service, Children's Hospital and community setting. The post holder will support babies and families throughout the full surgical pathway, from ante-natal counselling and planning, through inpatient admission, transition to paediatrics, repatriation to local hospitals, discharge and follow-up in the community.
The role includes holding a defined clinical caseload and working autonomously within an agreed scope of competence and professional practice, requiring extensive neonatal surgical knowledge, expertise and sound clinical judgement. Working closely with neonatal, paediatric and surgical teams, the paediatric colorectal team, wider MDT, allied health professional teams and community and primary care services, you will lead and support the continued development of care pathways that improve patient flow, reduce avoidable delays to transfer and discharge, enhance repatriation and discharge planning, and improve parent experience and patient outcomes.
Main duties of the job The Leeds Centre of Newborn Care at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust is one of the largest in the UK. The service is currently provided across two sites, Leeds General Infirmary and St James's University Hospital. We have a NICU and surgical unit at LGI, SCBU at SJUH, Transitional Care Unit and a Neonatal Outreach Service and Neonatal and Paediatric Surgical Outreach service. What you will bring to the role To facilitate transfer discharge of Neonates providing the follow up support in the community
Initiate early discharge if appropriate to the patient
Collaborate & build relationships with MDT Teams
Act as a source of speciality expertise to parents & carers, Neonatal and Paediatric Surgical Outreach and the Neonatal and Paediatric Ward teams
Provide education teaching/training to parents & carers to facilitate timely transfers or discharges
Participate in planning and implementation of quality initiatives and targets, in conjunction with the MDT team
Drive and hold a current driving licence
Lead and manage the surgical outreach service, analysing and scoping to continually develop the service
Promote good communication and working relationship with the other leads of the service
Lead and manager projects in conjunction with the service
