Job summary EDUCATION AND SIMULATION FELLOW RESUSCITATIVE & VASCULAR SURGERY (ST3+)
We are inviting applications to appoint an Education and Simulation Fellow within the Leeds Vascular Institute (LVI) at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This post is aimed at an enthusiastic vascular surgeon at Specialty Registrar level (ST3+) with a strong interest in surgical education, simulation and innovation, alongside continued clinical development in vascular and resuscitative surgery. The post combines (i) a substantial education/simulation portfolio based within the Leeds Vascular Training Centre (VTC) and (ii) clinical service commitments including participation in the 1:9 Vascular and Major Trauma Surgery middle grade on-call rota and will train in elective and urgent vascular surgery. Applicants should hold ATLS (or equivalent) by the intended start date given LVI participation in the Major Trauma Centre team.

Main duties of the job As faculty within the VTC, the post holder will contribute to a high-throughput simulation programme delivering two to three supervised simulation sessions per week. The successful candidate will undertake an education and/or simulation project aligned to VTC interests, with opportunities including:
novel simulation materials and model development including 3D printing. model evaluation/validation extended reality (XR) and virtual reality (VR) education research The fellow will also be encouraged to support delivery and development of regional vascular and resuscitative surgery courses and training events, including (examples): Yorkshire vascular registrar teaching, CST vascular teaching days, NOTSS teaching days, anastomotic workshops, and cadaveric aortic/trauma courses. The post is designed to include protected education and simulation time alongside clinical activity. In elective weeks this is typically 50% education/simulation/research and 50% clinical activity (theatre/ward/outpatients), with regular programmed simulation delivery (typically 23 sessions per week).

The successful candidate will be supervised by Mr Tim Stansfield and Professor Shervanthi Homer-Vanniasinkam, with regular supervisory meetings to review progress and provide support. The post holder will be encouraged to present work at local, national and international meetings, and to prepare outputs for submission to peer-reviewed journals. Subject to the length of the fellowship, departmental funding may be available to support overseas visits to centres of excellence and simulation events (for example, Maastricht, Chicago, San Francisco) to gain simulation insights to be shared with the department.
