Infrastructure Cloud Architect
Job description: Infrastructure Cloud Architect Thoriva · Remote · Full-Time Thoriva, an Infinite Company, is seeking a hands-on Senior AI Productivity Engineer to help product and technical teams supporting Thoriva Loan Platforms identify, implement, adopt, and continuously improve AI-enabled ways of working. This role will partner directly with developers, business analysts, quality assurance engineers, architects, operations teams, and product leaders to turn practical day-to-day needs into secure, measurable productivity improvements. The ideal candidate combines software engineering and applied AI experience with the patience, credibility, and interpersonal effectiveness needed to help individuals learn new approaches and build confidence using them. This person will evaluate new tools, expand the use of AI capabilities already available within enterprise products, build targeted automations and agents, lead training and adoption, and report results using balanced measures of efficiency, quality, risk, and user experience. ABOUT THE COMPANY Thoriva is an AI technology company delivering intelligent, data-driven solutions to transform government operations. We combine AI solutions, commercial expertise, and complex business logic to address government and federal agencies’ biggest challenges. JOB SUMMARY As the Infrastructure Cloud Architect, you will serve as the lead architect for a new cloud environment supporting Thoriva Loan Platforms. You will lead the effort to establish the target-state architecture, reference patterns, engineering standards, and technical guardrails for cloud infrastructure. Areas of focus will include networking, identity management, cybersecurity controls, data protection, observability, automation, continuity, and platform operations. You will partner with application, security, operations, data, and delivery teams to create an environment that supports modernization while protecting the reliability and regulatory obligations of mission-critical loan servicing platforms. You will evaluate technology options, document decisions and tradeoffs, lead design reviews, guide implementation teams, and ensure the resulting environment is supportable, auditable, resilient, and prepared for future growth. Key Responsibilities
• Lead the architecture and design of a new cloud-based infrastructure environment supporting Thoriva Loan Platforms, including production and non-production environments, shared services, management, and recovery capabilities.
• Define target-state architecture, cloud landing-zone principles, reference architectures, reusable patterns, and technical standards that can be implemented across appropriate cloud providers.
• Design and guide the implementation of secure and scalable capabilities for compute, storage, networking, connectivity, identity and access management, secrets and key management, logging, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and platform administration.
• Establish infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, policy-as-code, automated provisioning, and continuous integration and delivery practices in partnership with engineering and DevSecOps teams.
• Lead architecture decisions and design reviews; document assumptions, options, tradeoffs, risks, dependencies, non-functional requirements, and approved technical decisions.
• Translate business, client, contractual, security, privacy, and regulatory requirements into practical cloud infrastructure controls and implementation guidance.
• Partner with cybersecurity and risk teams to embed least privilege, defense in depth, encryption, segmentation, vulnerability management, secure configuration, continuous monitoring, and auditable controls into the platform architecture.
• Define availability, resiliency, capacity, performance, recoverability, and service continuity patterns appropriate for mission-critical loan servicing workloads.
• Guide application and platform teams in workload placement, integration, migration, modernization, and deployment decisions, including hybrid connectivity and dependencies on legacy or third-party systems.
• Develop cloud cost-management practices, including architecture-level cost estimates, tagging and allocation standards, capacity optimization, consumption monitoring, and financial governance.
• Establish observability and operational-readiness standards, including metrics, logs, traces, alerting, dashboards, runbooks, service-level objectives, incident response, and post-implementation validation.
• Provide technical leadership during implementation, troubleshooting, production incidents, capacity events, security findings, and recovery exercises involving cloud infrastructure.
• Mentor cloud and infrastructure engineers, promote consistent engineering practices, and build shared understanding across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Maintain current, accurate, and auditable architecture artifacts, diagrams, standards, inventories, decision records, and operating documentation.
Required Qualifications
• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience designing, implementing, and managing enterprise infrastructure, including substantial experience leading cloud architecture and engineering for complex, business-critical environments.
• 6C public trust security clearance (or the ability to be granted applicable clearance).
• The ability to accommodate occasional travel (less than 10%) to Indianapolis, IN and/or metropolitan Washington DC.
• Demonstrated experience serving as a cloud, infrastructure, platform, or enterprise architect with accountability for technical direction, architecture governance, and implementation guidance.
• Deep knowledge of core cloud architecture concepts across leading providers, including compute, storage, virtual networking, load balancing, identity, security services, managed platform services, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Experience designing cloud landing zones, account or subscription structures, network segmentation, hybrid connectivity, identity federation, centralized logging, policy enforcement, and shared platform services.
• Strong experience with infrastructure as code and automation using tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu, CloudFormation, Bicep, or comparable technologies.
• Demonstrated experience with container platforms and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, managed container services, and associated networking, security, scaling, and observability patterns.
• Working knowledge of DevSecOps practices, source control, automated pipelines, artifact management, configuration management, secrets management, and secure software delivery integration.
• Strong understanding of cloud security architecture, including least-privilege access, privileged access management, encryption, key management, network security, vulnerability management, security monitoring, and compliance evidence.
• Experience designing high-availability, fault-tolerant, scalable, and recoverable systems with defined recovery objectives, tested continuity strategies, and operational support models.
• Ability to evaluate technical alternatives, explain tradeoffs, develop architecture roadmaps, and make pragmatic recommendations that balance reliability, security, performance, delivery speed, and cost.
• Experience supporting complex production environments and partnering with operations teams on incident response, root cause analysis, capacity planning, performance management, and continual service improvement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present architecture decisions and risks to executives, clients, auditors, and technical teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with student loan servicing, financial services, government contracting, public-sector technology, or another highly regulated environment.
• Experience architecting migration or modernization programs involving legacy applications, high-volume transaction processing, batch workloads, APIs, databases, data platforms, and third-party integrations.
