About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a full time Dietetic Assistant to work alongside our team of Paediatric Dietitians supporting children, young people and their families who require nutritional interventions. The post holder will work under the supervision of a Dietitian and review and advise patients in wards, clinics and by telephone.

The post holder will work as a member of the multi-professional team, working closely with Dietitians, Special Feed Unit, Medical staff, AHPs, Nursing staff, and Catering staff. In addition to the clinical role, the post holder will undertake administrative duties to support the service, including generation of clinical letters, ordering special feeds and diets for patients in hospital, liaising with GP's Health Visitors and school nurses , organising feed deliveries and prescriptions for home, creation of resources for use by patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

To review patients who are in hospital or in outpatient clinics under supervision of a Dietitian and to give nutritional advice within specific guidelines. To accurately assess and document the nutritional status of the patient. To support Dietitians in administrative duties including generating clinical letters, organising feeds for inpatient and outpatient use, liaising with other health care professionals regarding the nutritional management of the patient, creation of resources for use by patients and families.

Person Specification

Knowledge/Experience and Skills Essential

Knowledge of children's growth patterns, normal nutritional requirements and special diets, gained through formal or theoretical and practical work based training Knowledge of medical conditions and their nutritional impact ,gained through formal or theoretical and practical work based training Able to communicate effectively with people at all levels Good time management and ability to work to deadlines Attention to detail Treats people with compassion, dignity and respect Committed to own CPD Demonstrates initiative and self motivated Genuine interest and enthusiasm for working within Dietetics Has right to work in UK

Desirable

Practical experience of assessing children's growth and giving nutritional advice Previous Experience of working as a Dietetic assistant

Qualifications Essential

Undergone relevant theoretical and practical work based training or holds a minimum of a relevant Health related Level 5 qualification

Desirable

Holds a level 6 qualification in Human Nutrition or Dietetics Previous experience of working in a Healthcare setting, delivering patient care
