Job Title: Warehouse WorkerJob DescriptionThis role involves performing a variety of warehouse duties in a metals service center, including handling materials, maintaining inventory, supporting production activities, and ensuring that metal products are measured, cut, and prepared accurately for customer orders. Responsibilities • Maintain accurate warehouse inventory by tracking incoming and outgoing materials. • Lay out metal materials on machines and workstations according to job specifications. • Measure materials carefully to ensure specified dimensions and angles are met before cutting or processing. • Use a tape measure and perform basic math calculations to verify precise cuts and material lengths. • Pull and prepare customer orders, ensuring the correct materials and quantities are selected. • Perform order picking using RF scanners and RF scan guns to locate and confirm items. • Assist with picking, packing, and preparing materials for shipping and receiving. • Load and unload materials, including using pallet jacks and other material-handling equipment as needed. • Support general labor tasks in a production environment, including moving, staging, and organizing materials. • Operate or assist with forklifts and other warehouse equipment as directed, if qualified. • Perform heavy lifting of materials up to 60 lbs as part of daily tasks. • Stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours) while performing warehouse and production duties. • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working on the warehouse floor. • Work collaboratively with another team member who will provide on-the-job training and guidance. • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to support a safe and efficient operation. Essential Skills • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure. • Ability to perform basic math calculations to ensure precise cutting and measurement of metal materials. • Capability to lift up to 60 lbs safely and repeatedly. • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours during a shift. • Experience working in a warehouse, inventory, or general labor environment. • Familiarity with using hand tools for measuring, cutting, or handling materials. • Experience with order picking, packing, and handling materials in a production or warehouse setting. • Ability to use RF scanners or RF scan guns to pick and track inventory. • Experience with loading and unloading materials in a shipping and receiving environment. • Ability to work safely in a production environment with heavy materials and equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience using pallet jacks for moving materials. • Exposure to forklift operations or a willingness to learn, if applicable. • Previous experience in a metals, manufacturing, or production warehouse environment. • Comfort working with heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks. • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate measurements and order fulfillment. • Reliability and consistency in following safety procedures and work instructions. • Willingness to learn from on-the-job training and work closely with a trainer or teammate. Work EnvironmentThe position is based in a clean, organized warehouse within a metals service center that handles a wide variety of products for customers. The warehouse is mostly nonclimate-controlled, and the facility is exposed to the elements near entry and exit doors used by trucks, so it can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer. The role involves working closely with one other person who will provide training and support. The environment is a production setting with general labor, heavy lifting, and the use of equipment such as RF scanners, pallet jacks, and potentially forklifts. Steel-toe footwear is required as part of the personal protective equipment, and the rest of the PPE is provided. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of BIRMINGHAM, AL. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
