Position Summary West Lyon Community School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Boys Basketball Coach to help develop student-athletes both on and off the court. The successful candidate will assist the head coach in all aspects of the basketball program while promoting teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and a commitment to excellence. Primary Responsibilities
• Assist the head coach in planning, organizing, and conducting daily practices, games, and team activities.
• Provide individual and team instruction to develop fundamental basketball skills, offensive and defensive strategies, and overall player performance.
• Support the head coach in game preparation, scouting, and implementing game strategies.
• Build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, fellow coaches, and school personnel.
• Promote academic achievement, good sportsmanship, accountability, and positive character development.
• Assist with offseason workouts, summer camps, and player development opportunities.
• Support the development of the entire West Lyon boys basketball program, including collaboration with junior high and youth coaches.
• Follow all West Lyon Community School policies and applicable IHSAA regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous basketball coaching or playing experience.
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and player development.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to motivate and develop student-athletes of varying skill levels.
• Willingness to work collaboratively with the head coach and other members of the coaching staff.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, the required Iowa coaching authorization or license.
Expectations The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, enthusiasm for working with young athletes, and a commitment to building a successful basketball program. The assistant coach must be a positive role model who supports the head coach's vision and contributes to a culture of accountability, teamwork, and Wildcat pride.
