Position Summary West Lyon Community School is seeking an energetic, visionary, and student-centered Head Girls Soccer Coach to establish and lead our new girls soccer program. This individual will have the unique opportunity to build the program from the ground up by developing a positive team culture, teaching fundamental and advanced soccer skills, and creating a sustainable program that reflects the values and expectations of West Lyon Community School. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the program, including player development, program organization, community engagement, and collaboration with school administration and other coaches to create a first-class experience for student-athletes. Essential Responsibilities
• Establish and develop a comprehensive girls soccer program aligned with the mission and values of West Lyon Community School.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive culture emphasizing sportsmanship, accountability, character, and teamwork.
• Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices focused on skill development, tactical understanding, conditioning, and player growth.
• Develop a long-term vision that includes youth engagement and a consistent philosophy throughout the program.
• Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
• Promote multi-sport participation while collaborating professionally with coaches from other activities.
• Organize team schedules, equipment, uniforms, transportation requests, and other program logistics in coordination with the Activities Director.
• Maintain compliance with all Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU), conference, and West Lyon Community School policies.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents, school personnel, officials, and community members.
• Support the academic success, personal growth, and well-being of all student-athletes.
• Build positive relationships with youth programs, community organizations, and supporters to establish a strong foundation for the future of the program.
• Coordinate offseason development opportunities that comply with state association regulations.
• Assist with fundraising, promotional efforts, and community outreach to increase enthusiasm and participation in the program.
• Maintain accurate records, inventory equipment, and oversee the care and security of school-owned equipment and facilities.
• Attend required coaches' meetings, professional development opportunities, and state rules meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous soccer coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or competitive club level.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead a successful athletic program.
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of player development and age-appropriate coaching techniques.
• Current coaching authorization or ability to obtain Iowa coaching certification.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and concussion certification (or ability to obtain).
