Diesel/ Pump Mechanic $25 - $33hrJob DescriptionThis role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, pumps, vac-loaders, generators, and related industrial rental equipment in a service and repair shop environment. You will perform repairs and preventive maintenance in the shop and occasionally travel to customer sites within the DFW area to provide field service and support. The position requires hands-on mechanical and electrical work, clear communication with customers about service and equipment setup, and availability for on-call work as needed.Responsibilities
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, pumps, vac-loaders, generators, and other industrial rental equipment. • Perform routine maintenance such as changing filters on engines and changing seals on pumps. • Rebuild pumps and perform mechanical repairs on pump ends and related assemblies, without full engine overhauls. • Inspect fleet and rental equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and safety issues. • Troubleshoot mechanical and DC electrical problems using hand tools, power tools, and circuit testing equipment. • Service and repair industrial vacuum and vac-loader equipment, including hoses and associated components. • Repair and maintain equipment in the shop and occasionally travel to customer sites within the DFW area to perform service calls. • Drive a company vehicle to customer locations when responding to field service requests. • Communicate clearly with customers regarding service needs, repair status, and equipment setup. • Use forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely to move parts and machinery in the yard and shop. • Maintain an organized work area and ensure tools, parts, and equipment are stored properly. • Provide on-call support as needed, including evenings and weekends, and remain on-site or in the field until service work is completed. • Collaborate with inside sales and operations staff to coordinate service schedules and equipment availability. • Follow safety procedures and guidelines while working with heavy equipment, diesel engines, electrical systems, and industrial vacuums. Essential Skills
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience working with diesel engines and pumps. • Extensive diesel engine repair experience, including diagnostics and component-level repairs. • Strong knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and repair in a shop or rental equipment environment. • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues on fleet and rental equipment. • Heavy DC electrical knowledge, specifically 12V systems, including circuit testing and troubleshooting. • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for mechanical and electrical repairs. • Experience working with pumps, pump ends, and industrial vacuum equipment. • Ability to inspect equipment thoroughly and identify needed repairs or maintenance. • Capability to operate forklifts and handle equipment safely in a yard and shop setting. • Competence in troubleshooting complex equipment issues and implementing effective repair solutions. • Comfort working with generators, vac-loaders, and related industrial equipment. • Valid driver capability to operate a company vehicle for service calls within the DFW area. • Willingness and ability to be on call, including evenings and weekends, and to work overtime when required. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Experience in the repair or rental equipment industry, such as working for equipment rental or heavy equipment repair shops. • Background in servicing fleet equipment and industrial machinery. • Prior exposure to Gorman Rupp or similar pump manufacturers is beneficial. • Familiarity with industrial vacuum systems and vac-loader equipment. • Ability to communicate professionally with customers about service work and equipment setup. • Strong troubleshooting mindset and attention to detail in diagnostics and repair. • Capability to work independently as the primary mechanic in a small shop setting. • Willingness to provide personal standard tools; specialty tools are supplied by the employer. The setting is practical and industrial rather than spotless, designed for heavy mechanical work and efficient access to components. You are the only mechanic onsite, working closely with inside sales and operations staff, which gives you autonomy and clear responsibility for mechanical activities. The role follows a day shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime and weekend work as needed, especially when responding to on-call service requests. On-call duty typically occurs one week per month, rotating with other mechanics, and may require working later into the day to complete service calls at customer sites. You drive a company vehicle to field locations when called out. The dress code consists of steel-toe boots, jeans, and a work shirt, suitable for working with heavy equipment, diesel engines, pumps, industrial vacuums, and electrical systems in a hands-on repair environment. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Arlington, TX. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
