Job Title: Building Engineer – 2nd ShiftJob DescriptionThis role is a maintenance technician position with an ownership mindset, responsible for delivering high-quality facilities maintenance in a commercial hospitality environment. You will serve as the key technical operator on 2nd shift, ensuring that all building systems run smoothly, guest spaces remain in excellent condition, and maintenance activities meet high standards of precision and reliability.Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary operational technical point of contact during 2nd shift, taking ownership of all maintenance activities while on duty. • Execute precision repairs across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, and high-end finishing to maintain a flawless fit-and-finish throughout the property. • Proactively identify and correct minor defects, such as micro-imperfections, uneven paint lines, and early-stage mechanical issues, before they affect guest satisfaction or building performance. • Prioritize and complete daily guest room work orders in a timely, professional, and courteous manner, ensuring a positive guest and team experience. • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on building systems and equipment, following established procedures and manufacturer guidelines. • Maintain accurate technical logs, maintenance records, and documentation for all work performed, including repairs, inspections, and PM activities. • Respond quickly to guest and staff maintenance calls, providing clear communication and delivering solutions that reflect a service-oriented, approachable attitude. • Strictly adhere to safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure a safe work environment for yourself and others. • Support facility compliance with brand standards and building management requirements, including proper operation of central plant equipment and building systems. • Troubleshoot and repair issues related to central plant equipment such as chillers, boilers, thermal storage systems, pumps, heat exchangers, utility services, electrical power distribution, and plumbing/facility maintenance. • Operate and understand Building Management Systems (BMS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) to monitor, adjust, and optimize building performance. • Perform maintenance and repair on HVAC systems, including PTAC and VRF units, ensuring efficient and reliable operation. • Complete drywall repair, touch-up painting, and other finishing work to maintain high visual standards throughout guest and back-of-house areas. • Work independently and safely without direct supervision, managing task prioritization and ensuring that each workspace is left cleaner and more organized after work is completed. • Collaborate with the Chief Engineer and broader facilities team to support overall building operations, share technical insights, and contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance practices. Essential Skills
• 2–4 years of commercial facilities maintenance experience, preferably in hospitality or high-end commercial properties. • 2–3 years of commercial real estate maintenance experience. • High school diploma or equivalent. • Strong troubleshooting skills in facility maintenance and repair. • Solid working knowledge of general plumbing systems and plumbing-related repairs. • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including familiarity with electrical power distribution in commercial buildings. • Hands-on experience with HVAC systems, including maintenance and repair of PTAC and VRF units. • Prior experience and working knowledge of central plant equipment, including chillers, boilers, thermal storage, pumps, heat exchangers, and utility services. • Ability to understand and work with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS). • Experience performing preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment. • Demonstrated independence and reliability, with the ability to work safely and autonomously without direct supervision. • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to detect and correct minor defects and finishing issues. • Ownership mindset focused on high-quality craftsmanship and thorough troubleshooting. • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work orders, and maintain accurate maintenance logs. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Technical or trade school training in a related field is preferred. • HVAC certification is preferred. • CPO or EPA certification is preferred. • Experience working in commercial building engineering or power plant environments. • In commercial building engineer roles, maintenance technician roles, or facilities maintenance roles. • Skills in carpentry and drywall repair, including high-end finishing and touch-up painting. • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with guests, team members, and leadership. • Commitment to safety, including adherence to OSHA guidelines and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. • Proactive, dependable work ethic and a focus on leaving workspaces cleaner and more organized after tasks are completed. You will work primarily on 2nd shift, Tuesday through Saturday, from 2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The environment includes central plant equipment such as chillers, boilers, thermal storage, pumps, heat exchangers, and utility services, as well as electrical power distribution, plumbing systems, HVAC units (including PTAC and VRF), and BMS/EMS controls. You will spend time in guest-facing areas, back-of-house spaces, mechanical rooms, and central plant facilities, using standard maintenance tools and equipment while following established safety and compliance procedures. The work involves both technical system oversight and hands-on repairs, in a setting that requires professionalism, attention to detail, and adherence to brand and safety standards. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baltimore, MD. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
