An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse to join St John's Hospice as our Ward Manager.

This is a rewarding leadership role within a highly respected specialist palliative and end of life care service, where you will have the opportunity to influence patient experience, develop staff and shape the future of hospice care. You will lead a committed nursing team delivering outstanding, person-centred care to patients and those important to them during some of life's most significant moments.

Working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team, you will provide visible clinical and operational leadership, ensure safe, effective and compassionate care whilst fostering a positive culture of learning, development and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide professional, managerial and robust clinical leadership to a

specified ward area. The post holder is responsible for promoting and assuring robust risk

assessment and management processes and will manage within the constraints of the

identified budget as directed by the Service Manager.

The post holder will actively support and participate in the integration of a whole system

approach with multidisciplinary working at all times and will perform delegated duties on

behalf of the Service Manager in their absence.

The post holder will ensure everyone, including staff, patients and visitors, has their right to

be treated with respect and have their values and beliefs maintained, ensuring that they are

treated in such a way that maintains their privacy and dignity.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NMC Registered Nurse (Adult) Evidence of Continuing Professional Development Relevant Postgraduate qualification in a subject relevant to the area of practice Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)

Desirable

Leadership or management qualification. Degree qualification in a subject relevant to the area of practice

Experience Essential

Post-registration experience of palliative and end of life care Experience of working in an inpatient ward area Working collaboratively with Patients and their families/carers Providing Management supervision. Developing practice standards Quality improvement activities Leadership or management experience at minimum of a Band 6 role Staff management experience

Desirable

Project and change management Inter-agency and partnership working Delivering training and education to multi professional groups Experience of working within a range of services, including inpatient and community settings Experience of undertaking or participating in research Evidence of financial management

Knowledge Essential

Clinical knowledge to degree level - or equivalent in own area of specialist practice Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients within Palliative care Previous Management experience Principles of change management Principles of project management the field of practice, regionally and nationally Working knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Capacity Act. Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice Clinical Governance and its application in practice. Understanding and keeping up to date with research in specific area of expertise The Trust's Quality Improvement system (QIS) - within agreed timescale Good knowledge of record keeping principles

Skills Essential

Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team Demonstrate leadership qualities and motivational skills Demonstrate effective communication, organisational and administrative skills Write reports. Use multimedia materials for presentations in professional settings Standard keyboard skills

Desirable

Teaching, education and presentation skills Project or change management skills Advanced communication skills training.
