Full Time - 40 hours per week ( plus on-call frequency)Fixed Term - 12 months
Main duties of the job
This is an excellent opportunity to join our dynamic glaucoma service within the eye department at Guys & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in central London. This fellowship provides extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of Glaucoma. The post also involves a component working in eye emergency. The post has on call commitment.

The glaucoma team see over 14,000 appointments a year providing a high quality service. The department is well equipped with modern equipment including OCT's, lasers and dedicated ophthalmic operating theatres.

Job description Job responsibilities
Clinical
The post holder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of ophthalmic services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:
Diagnosis and treatment of patients in the glaucoma clinics. Treatment of patients by the use of laser procedures. To cover eye emergency when required. Training
All medical staff will be expected to participate & contribute to the training and support of doctors in training.
Clinical Governance
All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas and their audit of their own clinical work as part of their annual appraisal.
Appraisal
All medical and dental staff are required to undertake annual appraisal.

All post holders must comply with Trust infection screening and immunisation policies as well as be familiar with the Trusts Infection Control Policies, including those that apply to their duties, such as Hand Decontamination Policy, Personal Protective Equipment Policy, safe procedures for using aseptic techniques and safe disposal of sharps.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training: Essential
Full GMC Registration and hold a licence to practise.
Clinical Experience: Essential
Comprehensive clinical experience in ophthalmology Sufficient clinical experience in the treatment of patients in Glaucoma at clinical fellow level. Experience of performing laser procedures.
Desirable
Experience in treating patients in eye casualty.
Knowledge and Skills: Essential
Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
Management: Essential
Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management Evidence of a commitment to perusing a subspecialist interest in glaucoma Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council
