Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Registered Mental Health Nurse to join CITOP (Crisis and Intervention Team for Older People) as a Clinical Lead.
CITOP provides specialist assessment, intervention and support to older people experiencing mental health crisis. As part of the service, the Acute Community Service (ACS) delivers intensive community-based interventions, providing an alternative to hospital admission and supporting people to remain in their own homes wherever possible. Following recent service development and investment, CITOP now operates as a 24-hour, 7-day service and continues to evolve in response to the changing needs of our population.
Building on strong foundations, we are committed to maintaining high standards of care whilst continuing to develop and enhance our service for older people, their families and carers. As we move forward, focus remains on delivering responsive, person-centred care that aligns with local priorities and the national vision for community-based mental health services.
We are seeking a motivated and forward-thinking clinical leader who is passionate about delivering high-quality care, supporting staff development and contributing to service improvement.
Working alongside the Team Leader and fellow Clinical Lead, you will play a key role in shaping the future direction of CITOP, supporting innovation, quality improvement and the continued delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care.
Main duties of the job
Provide clinical and professional nursing leadership across CITOP and the Acute Community Service. Support staff managing complex mental health presentations and clinical risk. Promote excellence in clinical practice and professional standards. Contribute to service development, quality improvement and innovation. Support the ongoing development of crisis assessment, triage and intensive community intervention pathways. Support the delivery of effective alternatives to hospital admission where clinically appropriate. Provide supervision, support and development opportunities for staff. Work collaboratively with colleagues across community, inpatient and urgent care services. Support the development of pathways that improve patient experience, continuity of care and integrated working.

Qualifications and Knowledge Essential
Advanced/expert clinical qualification Accredited leadership/management qualification or ability to demonstrate these at an advanced level Member of specialist interest group/network, locally or nationally Specialist/advanced understanding/application of relevant managerial and leadership aspects of the service area Detailed understanding of all current legislation relevant to the service area Evidence of contribution to research Evidence of policy implementation and development Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service areas within community health services , e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion, Safeguarding Adults Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within community services Good IT skills e.g. knowledge of word and excel Knowledge of legislation relevant to the service area Evidence of project work that has had a positive impact on service delivery Working knowledge of Trust IT systems if relevant to own area of work Knowledge of managing delegated budgets
