Job Title: Machine OperatorJob DescriptionThis role involves operating a Peddinghaus drill press and CTL machine in a small, family-oriented machine and fabrication shop. You will read and interpret production drawings, perform precise measurements, and support multiple stages of the production process. Over time, you will have the opportunity to train and develop into a welder/fitter as you gain experience with the machines and shop operations. Responsibilities • Operate a Peddinghaus drill press and CTL machine safely and efficiently to meet production requirements. • Read and interpret blueprints and production drawings to determine specifications, dimensions, and tolerances. • Use a tape measure and other measuring tools to perform accurate quality checks on parts and finished products. • Learn and support multiple areas of production, including machine operation, welding, finishing, and fitting. • Assist with saw operation, including bandsaw use, to cut materials to specified lengths and dimensions. • Perform basic MIG welding and grinding tasks as needed to support fabrication and finishing work. • Operate drill presses, punch presses, and related shop equipment in accordance with safety and quality standards. • Use hand and power tools to complete fabrication, assembly, and finishing tasks as required. • Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move materials and products safely throughout the shop. • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all shop safety procedures and guidelines. • Work substantial overtime, including extended weekday shifts and Saturday work, as production demands require. • Demonstrate consistent interest in learning new skills and taking on additional responsibilities within the shop. Essential Skills • Experience operating a drill press and CTL machine in a machine shop or fabrication environment. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and production drawings accurately. • Proficiency using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools for quality checks. • Hands-on experience in a machine shop environment with heavy industrial equipment. • Familiarity with CNC-related operations or automated machine processes. • Experience with saw operation, including bandsaw use. • Basic MIG welding experience in a production or fabrication setting. • Experience with grinding operations for finishing metal parts. • Ability to operate an overhead crane safely to move materials and products. • Ability to operate a forklift safely in a busy shop environment. • Comfort working in a heavy industrial, loud, and fast-paced production setting. • Willingness and ability to work heavy overtime, including 56-hour weeks and Saturday shifts. • Strong interest in learning new skills such as welding, finishing, fitting, and additional machine operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Prior experience in a small machine or fabrication shop environment. • Exposure to punch press operations and related metal fabrication equipment. • Comfort using a variety of hand and power tools in a production setting. • Demonstrated ability to cross-train in multiple production roles. • Motivation to grow within the industry and advance into welding, fitting, and advanced machine operation. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. • Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic suited to a high-overtime schedule. Work EnvironmentThis position is based in a small machine and fabrication shop with a heavy industrial atmosphere. The environment is loud, with overhead movement of product, welding, grinding, music, and multiple machines running throughout the day. You will work on 1st shift, with regular hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and current overtime schedules extending to 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays plus additional overtime on Saturdays, resulting in approximately 56-hour workweeks. You will work around equipment such as Peddinghaus drill presses, CTL machines, bandsaws, punch presses, cranes, forklifts, and various hand and power tools. The role requires comfort in a physically demanding, industrial setting and adherence to appropriate industrial attire and safety gear as required by shop policies. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lansing, IL. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
