Facilities Maintenance Tech II

Position Description: Performs skilled maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other physical structures. May oversee and review the work of lower-level technicians.

Major/Essential Functions: • Performs skilled construction support activities including facility renovations, modifications, installations, and repairs; interprets drawings, specifications, and field conditions to complete assigned work. • Supports construction projects by coordinating with project managers, contractors, vendors, and campus departments to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with institutional requirements. • Installs, modifies, and maintains building systems, equipment, and infrastructure including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and specialty systems associated with facility improvements. • Reviews, updates, and maintains facility documentation, including as-built drawings, schematics, equipment information, and construction-related records to support accurate facility management. • Performs field assessments, identifies deficiencies, recommends corrective actions, and assists with planning and execution of construction and maintenance activities. • Provides skilled support for campus special events by coordinating room setups, facility modifications, equipment installation, furniture movement, temporary infrastructure, and event-related operational needs. • Operates and utilizes a variety of tools, equipment, and specialty equipment to perform construction, installation, repair, and maintenance activities with minimal supervision. • Performs preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance activities while ensuring work complies with applicable safety standards, procedures, and quality expectations. • Independently prioritizes assignments, manages multiple projects and service requests, and provides solutions to complex maintenance and construction-related issues in support of campus operations. • In accordance with Texas Executive Order GA-48 and applicable state or federal law, this position may involve access to, work on, or conducting research involving critical infrastructure as defined by Texas Business & Commerce Code §117.001(2) (formerly Texas Business & Commerce Code § 113.001(2)). If this position is determined to relate to critical infrastructure, please be advised that it will require periodic reviews and background checks after hiring, which will include but are not limited to, criminal history and other security-related screenings that will continue for the duration of your employment in that position. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of these checks. • Required to maintain a current and valid State of Texas Driver's License and be listed as an approved driver as determined by Risk Management and insurance carrier. • Remain current with all licensures, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position. • Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.). • Personally, and consistently, demonstrate, display and act in accordance with Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Preferred Qualifications: • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. • Basic knowledge and ability to install, operate and maintain building systems and associated equipment. • Skilled in the proper use of tools, equipment and devices used in the construction and maintenance trades. • Knowledge of occupational and safety hazards. Wear appropriate PPE specific for the trade & follow processes to prevent accidents. • Able to work and respond to emergency calls on weekends, holidays and after hours. • Basic understanding of other trades and able to perform or assist in the completion of them. • Experience in the installation of metal studs, door frames, doors, texture, tape/bed, paint and flooring is preferred.

Required Qualifications: • Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. • Three years of job relevant experience.
