Position Description: Under limited supervision, performs a wide range of surgical scheduling duties for procedures requiring anesthesia. The surgical scheduler is required to initiate the insurance authorization process, schedule pre-admission testing and clearance appointments, and schedule appropriate surgical procedures with the appropriate facility.

Additionally, this position is not eligible for remote or hybrid opportunities. All work is required to be performed onsite at TTEP.

Major/Essential Functions: • Maintain knowledge of assigned medical specialty conditions, procedure types, ICD codes, CPT codes, and necessary paperwork and equipment required for surgical procedures. • Coordinate and/or explain procedural information with patients, primary care physicians, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospitals as needed. • Schedule patient pre-op appointments and surgeries. Responsible for verifying patient's insurance and ensuring all required referrals are obtained prior to scheduling the procedure. • Manage assigned physician’s surgery schedule, documenting surgery in EMR system, and physician’s personal calendar. • Advise patients of scheduled procedures and instructions. • Responsible for updating all departments of upcoming procedures including primary care office, ambulatory surgery center, hospital, and billing department. • Responsible for collecting prior authorization information for all surgical procedures. • Schedule all preoperative imaging and testing. • Schedule all appropriate testing and post op office visit as required. • Complete all paperwork for patients and appropriate departments. • Update EMR for all activities. • Notify all appropriate individuals of scheduling changes. • Keep physicians informed on patient waiting status, reschedules or cancelations. • Optimize physician scheduling and productivity. • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers through prompt response and courteous communication. • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations. • Remain current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position. • Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.). • Personally, and consistently, demonstrate, display and act in accordance with Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Preferred Qualifications: • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with patients and families, providers, and internal and external customers. • Knowledge of medical terminology. • MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel and Outlook). • Knowledge of Texas Tech Health El Paso EMR system. • Experience with surgical scheduling procedures, surgery authorization processes, and hospital admission policies/procedures.

Pay Statement: Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. Required Qualifications: • Associates degree plus 6 months of surgery scheduling experience; OR • High school diploma or GED plus two (2) years of surgery scheduling experience.
