About this role

Job summary

Modality LLP provides a range of NHS outpatient services within community settings, improving patient outcomes and delivering care closer to home, supported by a range of diagnostic services. These include a dedicated X-ray facility based at Handsworth Wood Medical Centre and mobile MRI scanners operating from different locations across the UK.

We are recruiting Radiographers to operate our MRI and X-ray services, working with the Senior Radiographers and Radiology Clinical Lead to deliver a responsive, safe, and high-quality service for patients. This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for patient care and for working in an agile manner to ensure a high-quality service. An essential requirement of this role is the ability and willingness to travel between sites.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake a wide range of MRI and X-ray procedures effectively and efficiently, maintaining a positive partnership and continuity of service across Modality's mobile and fixed-site services. Key responsibilities include:

Conducting screening safety checks and obtaining informed consent prior to imaging examinations Administering contrast media and undertaking cannulation procedures in accordance with Modality policies Providing physical and emotional support to patients throughout their attendance Entering data accurately on Radiology Information (IRIS), SystmOne, and Picture Archive (PACS) systems Ensuring the safe use and maintenance of highly specialist imaging equipment Adhering to all local MRI safety procedures, IR(ME)R employer procedures, and Health Board policies Performing initial clinical assessment of images, highlighting concerns with referrers and escalating sinister findings immediately to Senior Radiographers or the Radiology Clinical Lead Participating in clinical audits including Health & Safety and Infection Control Supporting and training students and radiographic assistants Maintaining hygiene in adherence to infection prevention standards Working autonomously within protocols and judging appropriately when to request senior support Delivering clinics independently and working as part of a multidisciplinary team Communicating effectively with patients, carers, hospital staff, GPs, and nursing staff

Skills Essential

Observational and analytical skills for interpreting images and assisting diagnosis. Ability to act autonomously within protocols and judge when to escalate. Problem-solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands. Excellent time management and ability to reprioritise workload effectively. Attention to detail. Ability to assess capacity, gain valid informed consent, and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity. Ability to communicate potentially distressing information sensitively to patients. Good written and verbal communication skills. Good computer skills, including use of PACS, RIS, and clinical systems. Ability to undertake audit or research projects within the service.

Personal Qualities Essential

Commitment to high standards of patient care and medical ethics. Demonstrates clear commitment to teamwork, exchanging ideas and supporting colleagues. Able to work effectively in a team and constructively challenge views when necessary. Ability to work on own initiative and organise own workload to tight timescales. Evidence of having worked with the public. Able to convey instructions clearly and ensure patient understanding. Ability to adapt to changing and demanding situations. Able to work unsupervised and deliver clinics independently.

Knowledge Essential

Diagnostic Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc (Hons). Current HCPC registration. Post-qualification experience in diagnostic imaging (MRI and/or X-ray). Certification to undertake cannulation procedures and administration of contrast media. Knowledge of pathologies and detailed knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Understanding of IR(ME)R regulations and local rules. Evidence of continued professional development.
