Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Qualified or Trainee Mammographer to join our dynamic Breast Imaging team. Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will perform a range of mammography procedures, ensuring the highest standards of image quality, safety, and patient experience. You will work autonomously if qualified at Band 6 level, or under structured supervision as part of an approved training pathway if appointed as a trainee.
You will play a key role in supporting the early detection and diagnosis of breast disease, while contributing to service development, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives. Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach are essential, particularly when supporting patients who may be anxious or distressed.

Job description Job responsibilities
The post holder will work as part of the Breast Imaging team, delivering a high-quality mammography service across screening and symptomatic pathways.
The role is suitable for a qualified Band 6 Mammographer working autonomously, or a trainee mammographer undertaking supervised practice while completing an accredited training programme.
You will perform a range of mammography examinations in line with national standards, ensuring high-quality diagnostic images and excellent patient care. You will adapt techniques to meet individual patient needs, including more complex cases, and support interventional procedures where appropriate.
A key part of the role is providing compassionate, patient-centred care. You will communicate effectively with patients, many of whom may feel anxious or distressed, ensuring dignity, privacy, and informed consent at all times.
You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of quality and safety, complying with relevant legislation (including IR(ME)R), and participating in quality assurance, audit, and service improvement activities.
The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and contribute to the effective running of the service. You will be expected to demonstrate flexibility and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Trainees will be supported to complete a recognised postgraduate mammography qualification, while qualified staff will contribute to supervision, training, and ongoing service development.
