Job summary
We are one of the largest cardiac centres in the southeast of England, carrying out 800 cardiac surgical operations every year. We have a team of seven Consultant Cardiac Surgeons providing the full range of adult cardiac surgery operations including CABG, Mitral and Aortic repair and replacement and aortic root and arch replacement. We are part of the southeast London dissection service and have a developing robotic MIDCAB and mini access mitral and aortic valve replacement programme.
We are looking for a experienced advanced surgical care practitioner to join our SCP team.
Main duties of the job
Working in partnership with the Lead SCP, Consultant Cardiac Surgeons and the Chief Clinical Perfusion Manager you will assist in buildinging a strong team focused on quality and safety with training and development and efficient use of resources central to your practice.
You will have experience working as a SCP in cardiac surgery and be competent in saphenous vein harvesting and exposure to endoscopic techniques is preferred. Experience of training and assisting others is an advantage. Participation in educational development programmes for SCP's and experience of management will be an advantage.

Job description Job responsibilities
The post holder will be practicing autonomously as an Advanced Surgical Care Practitioner (ASCP) to provide patient-centred quality care In Cardiothoracic surgery.
They will continue to develop their competence and skills across the four pillars of advanced practice (clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research). Clinically this will encompass the skills of advanced assessment, examination, investigation requesting, diagnosis and management.
The ASCP will meet the requirements of the NHSE Centre for Advancing Practices framework and guidelines for advanced level practice.
To work within the multi-professional framework for advanced practice in England (NHSE, 2025). The post holder will deliver an 80% clinical component to their role and 20% related to leadership and management, education and research.
The ASCP will undertake the assessing and harvesting of conduit for Cardiothoracic Bypass (CABG) surgery and will be competent in the use ultrasound to facilitate conduit mapping.
At St Georges long saphenous Vein and Radial artery are routinely used for Coronary artery Bypass (CABG). They will be harvested using a range of techniques such as open and Endoscopic techniques and the ASCP will be competent to
undertake these procedures, Training will be given if required and updates and relevant Continuous Professional Development (CPD) are expected to be undertaken by the Practitioner.
First and second assisting role will also be required for all cases.
