The Integrated Therapies Department at the James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) are seeking a dedicated and compassionate physiotherapist to join our Cardiology, Respiratory and Surgical (CRS) Therapy Team. The successful candidate will support in the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy interventions across the inpatient wards of Cardiac, Respiratory and Surgical specialties, support in the teaching and development of junior staff and students and take an active role in quality improvement projects to guide service development. There may be the additional requirement to cover other clinical areas.
The CRS Therapy Team are a positive and forward-thinking multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and therapy assistant practitioners. We are always striving to improve our services, particularly in these current challenging times within the NHS. Using audit, LEAN and quality improvement models for service improvement initiatives, new policies and standard operating procedures, we are keen for you to become an integral part of continuing this journey. The department's links with the Research Department continue to grow.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will carry their own clinical caseload and provide specialist respiratory assessment and intervention to a wide range of patients across the clinical specialities of the team. Patients may present with complex pathology and social issues so effective and varied communication skills are really important to ensure a successful multidisciplinary approach to patient care and will be in regular discussions with a variety of people and disciplines such as patients, carers, JPUH colleagues and community partners etc.
In addition to this the post-holder will also provide clinical support to other team members and work alongside the Therapy Team Leader, specialist physiotherapists and occupational therapists, taking an active role in service development. The post-holder will be key in supporting the team to provide education not only within the Integrated Therapies Department but to our wider workforce, from healthcare assistants to qualified/overseas nursing staff and our medical colleagues. We also play a role in the development of our future workforce, through our close links with the University of East Anglia (UEA Medical School and School of Health Sciences), University of Suffolk, Suffolk College and City College Norwich. We provide teaching to apprentices, undergraduates and postgraduates across many healthcare disciplines whilst on placement.
About us
We will support the post-holder in achieving their career goals, through our well-structured supervision and appraisal system. The department actively encourages the utilisation of courses and training opportunities provided and signposted through our Organisational Development and Wellbeing Service. Training opportunities range from clinical and non-clinical skills, through to leadership and the development of others. The department's links with the Education Department continue to grow with the use of CPD funding as available. The recent East of England critical care upskill funding provided the opportunity for four physiotherapists to attend a lung ultrasound course. We are lucky enough to have access to a simulation suite where our knowledgeable staff are able to provide high fidelity training to our on call respiratory physiotherapists and new Band 5s to assist in gaining skills and competencies and support with the provision of our seven-day respiratory physiotherapy service.
Core working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00; however, flexible hours can be discussed. The post-holder will also be expected to work across seven days a week as part of a rota and cover evening on calls. The opportunity for part-time working can be discussed and may be available to the right candidate.

The post-holder will work as a Senior Physiotherapist based in our Cardiology, Respiratory and Surgery Therapy Team at the James Paget University Hospital The post-holder will be required to work autonomously and carry a clinical caseload, carrying out assessment and treatment of patients who may have complex pathology and social issues, in order to determine a clinical diagnosis and formulate an intervention plan whilst being responsible for own documentation To work closely with the multidisciplinary teams in order to receive referrals and use patient information to help prioritise the workload To contribute towards providing advice and teaching to occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and therapy assistant practitioner colleagues and to other members of the multidisciplinary team To support the education of students in an educator role as required To contribute and lead where appropriate on in-service development and individual development within the teams, implementing changes To assist evaluation of the physiotherapy service provided within the specialism and other wards Clinical/professional supervision takes the form of direct observation of practice or formal training/clinical reasoning sessions; advice and support are always available To work a rostered seven-day service and respiratory on call rota within the James Paget University Hospital To work within the James Paget University Hospital or in a community setting as required

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications Essential
Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc/MSc) Current Health and Care Professions Council registration CPD record should include evidence of up-to-date manual handling, relevant postgraduate courses or CPD and reflections of learning to support the speciality
Knowledge and Experience Essential
Experience at Band 5 level within a range of areas; patients with multi-pathology, including dementia, falls, palliative care and bariatric patients Significant clinical experience within the NHS to include acute hospital setting and discharge planning. To include critical care and on call working Experience of working with a range of professionals within multidisciplinary teams Evidence of acting in a supervisory manner, providing specialist guidance, training and support to other staff or students Evidence of reflective learning, demonstrates self-directed learning Awareness of relevant professional practice, new research and guidelines Understanding of legal issues, safeguarding and mental capacity Working knowledge of clinical governance and implications for own work
