Job summary
Maternity Ward Clerk - 24 hours per week
The successful candidate will need to have a friendly manner to welcome visitors and patients, alongside assisting with administrative duties on the ward. The working hours are 07:00- 18:00 and on a flexible rota covering the 7 day service (including weekends and Bank holidays)
We are seeking a professional, motivated, flexible person to join our team. The successful applicant will be expected to be computer literate, have effective communication skills and maintain strict confidentiality.
The role will require a range of duties, both administrative and reception, to assist the Dr's, Midwives and Support staff within a busy ward, helping maintain the smooth running of the ward.
The role requires excellent organisational skills, and the ability to be calm and patient under pressure. A smart and professional appearance and attitude is essential as the Ward Clerk is often the first point of contact with women and their families, visitors and staff.
Main duties of the job
Administrative/Clerical
Responsible for collection of notes for the clinic, filing all relevant results in patient records, tracking and returning notes. Greeting patients and visitors to the ward. Reception duties whereby all relevant paperwork is compiled and notes are attended to. Answer the telephone and take and record messages whilst adhering to the telephone standard applicable throughout the Trust and alert the midwives to any action required. Provide clerical support to the Midwives and Dr's in relation to filing, emailing, faxing and obtaining patient records and results as appropriate. Responsible for the ordering and collection of stationery and ensuring all appropriate documents, Patient Information Leaflets and general items required are well stocked and readily available. Inputting data onto relevant databases Passing on information to the Midwifery team Issue client car park permits and direct them to the general office. Assist with the paper results on a daily basis by checking for appointments, filing and issuing letters to the patient as instructed by the midwives. Provide holiday and sickness cover for other clerical staff as required. Undertake administrative tasks specific to the role of the Delivery Suite/Antenatal/postnatal area.
