Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The RUH Facilities team ; we are seeking an 'Environment Porter to help manage the removal of all our waste streams on site, encourage waste segregation, repurposing and recycling from our users - helping us move towards a sustainable future.
The role involves working as part of a dedicated and committed team collecting our many varied waste streams from our busy departments and wards helping ensure the provision of a positive environment for our patients.
Good communications are essential as you will work as part of a team in departments across the Trust., and the possession of a C1 category on your driving license will prove advantageous as part of the role will involve driving around the site in a 7.50 ton vehicle.
The job is varied and interesting, you will be able to work using your own initiative and collaborate as part of a whole team contributing to its success as a service .

To work as part of a team of Waste Porters collecting Clinical, Non-clinical, Hazardous, Non-hazardous, furniture and used laundry from wards and departments in preparation for collection by waste and laundry contractors
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Physical Effort
? Duties will include the handling and movement of linen, waste and other items, internally through the hospital corridors and externally around the hospital grounds. ? Safe movement in all areas is of paramount importance.? Duties may involve long periods of pulling and pushing of extremely heavy goods. ? Duties will include long periods of walking at a brisk pace.? You will need to be physically fit, as you will be required to walk and push trolleys and cages for long periods over long distances.

Working Conditions
You will be expected to work as part of a skilled, efficient and effective team that provide a caring and professional service to the trust. You will wear the appropriate uniform including PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). You will be expected to work without supervision and be expected to co-ordinate with other porters and clinical staff to plan work patterns in an effective manner You will be required to work outside at times and go outside to other departments in all weather conditions. You will act in a courteous manner to all staff, visitors and patients. Duties will include the working of allocated shift pattern and may include unsocial hours, weekends and bank holidays. A flexible approach to working hours and duties may be required.
