Job summary

We are offering an exciting (0.4WTE) fixed term post for 8 months within the dermatology service, based at the Royal Free Hospital, where you will join a dermatology psychology lead. The post will offer you opportunities to develop clinical skills in a supported environment focused on managing inflammatory skin conditions within an MDT setting.

The dermatology service is an established and well-regarded specialist team treating the whole range of skin conditions, including alopecia, inflammatory conditions like psoriasis and also eczema.

You will also have access to the Trust's psychological support structure including access to specialist supervision groups, regular training events and collaboration with colleagues from the same profession.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:o provide psychological care of patients, consistent with the World Class Care values and objectives of the Trust, within the dermatologyservice.o Provide psychological assessment and treatments, ensuringonward referrals for patients within the dermatology service asappropriate.o Provide formulation, advice and a consultation service on thepsychological aspects of patients' care within the multidisciplinary team and support the MDT team in providing psychologically and trauma-informed care.

Ensure patientsunderstand the interplay between their disease and their distress. Work autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.o Support the multi-disciplinary clinical and operational team to deliver integrated care, including consultation and training concerning psychological aspects of patient care and management along the dermatologypatient pathway, and ensure that psychological aspects are addressed (where appropriate) in research, audit, policy and service development.o Utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service as possible within the role.

Person Specification

Education and Professional Qualification Essential

Post-graduate doctoral level training in psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) as accredited by the British Psychological Society HCPC registration as Practitioner Psychologist

Experience Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, primary care, outpatient and inpatient settings Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity. Experience of work within interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary environments, including joint consultations with medical/physical health staff Experienced in oral presentations, working with people in groups Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.

Desirable

Experience of working within a dermatology, plastic surgery, burns or acute/community health setting, providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients, including outpatient and inpatient settings Experience in working with people who have had chronic health conditions and other health problems across the lifespan Experience in audit and/or research methods

Skills and aptitudes Essential

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management Knowledge of theoretical models and psychological interventions relevant to the needs of patients with skin conditions, body image anxiety and PTSD and those experiencing psychological difficulties secondary to their health condition. Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and quantitative data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the British Psychological Society/HCPC Ability to form good working relationships with others in a multidisciplinary setting Skilled in joint work with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses and medical doctors

Desirable

High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team Able to use time effectively and prioritise workload Ability to be reflective about own practice and style Enthusiastic about psychology in health settings

Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice and service delivery Interest in and ability to contribute to service development.

Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings Ability to demonstrate using psychological skills and knowledge in medical settings
