Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Breast Care Nursing Team for a Band 6 Breast Care Nurse Specialist. This post offers the opportunity to join a well-established, dynamic and forward-thinking team committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across the breast cancer pathway.
The successful candidate will work as an integral member of the Breast Care Nursing Team, contributing to the delivery of a coordinated, holistic service to patients undergoing investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for breast disease.
Should no suitable candidate be appointed at Band 6, consideration will be given to recruiting a Band 5 candidate, supported through a structured development pathway for a minimum of six months.
Main duties of the job
To work as an integral member of the Breast Care Nursing Team, contributing to the delivery of a coordinated, high-quality, patient centred service across the breast care pathway.
To contribute to the effective coordination of the patient pathway, ensuring timely communication of information, treatment plans, and results, and supporting the delivery of national cancer targets.
To work collaboratively with colleagues across the MDT, including surgical, oncology, radiology, and allied health professionals, to ensure safe, seamless, and effective care delivery.
To provide specialist advice and support to patients, families, and carers, enabling informed decision-making and promoting patient autonomy.
To support the ongoing development of the Breast Care service through the application of evidence-based practice in line with national guidelines and local policies.
To maintain accountability for clinical practice in accordance with the NMC Code and contribute to maintaining high standards of care within the clinical governance framework.
To act as a resource and role model within the clinical area, supporting and advising nursing and wider clinical staff in the care and management of breast patients.
To ensure effective communication with patients, carers, and all members of the MDT, demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills at all times.

Education and Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse Advanced practice in breast care nursing Preparation for mentorship or equivalent Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable
Degree or Evidence of academic pathway towards a degree Enhanced Communication Skills Principles and Practice of Breast Care Module
Knowledge and Experience Essential
Post registration experience to include 2 years recent experience surgical or breast care experience Ability to demonstrate detailed clinical knowledge relating to breast cancer care Ability to assess psychological needs of patients with a breast cancer diagnosis
Skills and Knowledge Essential
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Good organisational and team building skills Ability to prioritise own workload Good IT skills
