Job summary The James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a proactive and compassionate Trust Volunteer Coordinator to lead the recruitment, engagement, and ongoing support of our volunteer workforce, playing a key role in delivering an outstanding Patient Experience agenda. This role involves developing and implementing effective volunteer recruitment strategies, ensuring volunteers are well-trained, supported, and aligned to Trust values, and creating meaningful opportunities that enhance patient care and service delivery. Working collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical teams, the Coordinator will champion the voice of patients and volunteers, ensuring feedback informs continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be highly organised, people-focused, and passionate about building inclusive, impactful volunteer programmes that make a real difference to patients, families, and staff.

Job description Job responsibilities
Be responsible for the recruitment of new hospital volunteers in accordance with the Trust recruitment policy/Volunteer Policy
Ensure all Trust Volunteers attend the Corporate Induction programme, complete a DBS (Disclosure Barring Scheme) check and have photographic identification.
Ensure all volunteers are aware of their principal duties and they are aware of what they should/should not be doing.
Maintain an up-to-date database of all hospital volunteers
Organise an annual general meeting to include mandatory training updates, presentation of long service certification and invite guest speakers as required
Line manages front of House Receptionists ensuring there is front of house reception cover 5 days per week
Complete staff appraisals
Maintain a dedicated team of Butterfly Volunteers to provide ongoing support to patients at the end of life, their families and carers at the James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Attend End of Life (EOL) meetings and to promote the scheme at ward level.
Attend the EOL Care Operational Group meetings, providing relevant updates and contribute to the general improvement of EOL services.
Liaise and establish good working relationship with Chaplaincy Team and Bereavement Services
Liaise daily with Palliative Care & the End-of-Life team and ward staff to ensure that all patients who are placed on a Care Plan for the Dying Person are referred to the Butterfly Volunteer team.
Liaise regularly with the ward and department managers to ensure they have the volunteer service to suit their needs
Positively challenge practice which contravenes Trust values and behaviours, promoting a culture of continuous improvement
Always demonstrate accountability and integrity
Create and organize the production of certificates in recognition of long service to be presented at the annual meeting
Authorise travel expenses to be paid to volunteer staff monthly
Person Specification
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS Essential
Educated to degree/diploma level or demonstrable equivalent experience 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at grade C or above Good keyboard skills - computer literate in word and excel
Skills and KNOWLEDGE Essential
Previous NHS experience of working with staff from a range of professions Previous line management experience Previous recruitment experience Previous customer care experience Excellent communication skills

Previous demonstrable experience of organising events/open days
