We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Medical Secretaries, within the Division of Surgery. This role is ideal for a candidate who is compassionate and would like to make a positive difference to patient experience. Whilst not a hands on patient role this position enables the post holder to speak with patients on a daily basis and improve hospital waiting times, by working effectively and efficiently.
Main duties of the job
The Medical Secretary role is a highly diverse, demanding, but rewarding role, working as part of a supportive and dynamic team. The role entails supporting clinicians on a day-to-day basis, especially in helping coordinate the cancer service. It is essential that the successful applicants have the ability to type to a high standard and a desire to develop and learn new skills and competencies.
Applicants must be organised, a team player, have the ability to work under their own initiative and be able to prioritise a competing workload. Whilst experience in a medical administration or secretarial role is preferred, it is not essential. Full training and support would be offered to the candidate who has the skills and qualities required for the role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the team in managing clinical pathways, booking and scheduling theatre operating lists, typing , dealing with telephone queries, managing and administrating results, dealing with post and supporting the delivery of the RTT targets for the department; in accordance with National and Trust guidelines.

Qualifications Essential
Typing qualifications to RSA II or equivalent experience Good general standard of literacy and numeracy

Knowledge of medical terminology/AMSPAR qualification
Experience Essential
Previous digital/audio typing experience Working knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Outlook, Excel Working knowledge and experience of using NHS systems

Secretarial experience in a clinical environment

Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain concentration in a pressurised working environment Demonstrate good organisational skills Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise work and consistently meet deadlines Customer care skills including diplomacy and sensitivity Ability to input data accurately and efficiently Ability to solve problems using analytical and judgemental skills Ability to handle sensitive information without compromising confidentiality or Trust.
