Job summary
We are looking for a motivated and detail-focused Pharmacy Technician to join our supportive primary care team.
This is a new and developing role within our Pharmacy & Prescribing Team, offering a great opportunity for the right person to help shape how medicines management processes work within the practice. You will play a key part not only in day-to-day operations, but also in supporting the ongoing development and improvement of the role as it becomes embedded within the team.
The position is central to ensuring that medicines-related work is completed safely, efficiently, and in a timely way. You will help manage prescription workflows, coordinate care with other professionals, and support patients with their medication needs.

Main duties of the job
Medicines & Prescription Management
Completing medicines queries assigned via workflow systems Issuing routine and interim prescriptions following clinical decisions Coordinating monthly medication for nursing home patients Communication & Coordination
Liaising with reception staff, nursing homes, GPs, pharmacists, and community teams Responding to queries from patients, carers, and healthcare professionals Administration & Systems Work
Managing and completing medicines-related email requests and queries Processing letters and documents onto patient records Safety, Monitoring & Quality
Supporting recalls, medication alerts, and safety processes Keeping on top of monitoring requirements and high-risk medicines Completing audits and contributing to projects and service improvements Professional Development & Role Development
Maintaining CPD and engaging with ongoing training opportunities Contributing ideas to improve medicines workflows and processes Supporting the development and shaping of the Pharmacy Technician role within the practice
About us
Horizon Healthcare is a friendly city centre practice operating across two sites with a diverse population of over 29,000 patients.
We are a three GP Partnership supported by dedicated teams including Salaried GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Practice Nurses and HCAs, Urgent Care Practitioners, alongside Mental Health Practitioners and Physiotherapists. These clinical teams are supported by excellent reception, administration and management teams.

The Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in supporting the safe, effective, and timely management of medicines within a primary care setting. The post holder will focus on medicines coordination, triage, and follow through, ensuring that medicines related work is completed efficiently and safely.
This role exists to support the Pharmacy and Prescribing Team by:
managing medicines related processes and workflows,
acting as a first point of contact for routine medicines queries,
completing actions following clinical decisions made by pharmacists.
The post holder will not undertake independent clinical decision making or prescribing, but will work closely with clinical pharmacists, prescription coordinators and the wider practice team to reduce risk, improve patient experience, and protect funded clinical capacity.
