Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the effective and efficient data quality service to the Emergency Department. This will include reviewing medical, intervention and procedural terminology and other clinical information from the Emergency Department System and assign the appropriate diagnostic, intervention and procedure codes. The role will assist the Trust to meet both its business and clinical information requirements and improve the quality of the discharge information for both the patient and GP.
Main duties of the job
Reviewing electronic clinical information from both electronic and manual source documentation, translate and assign accurate diagnostic, intervention and procedure codes using the Firstnet ECDS classifications following and in-keeping with the national coding standards. Take responsibility for completing own workload within the agreed Trust daily coding targets in order to achieve the required daily coding deadlines Seek advice from clinicians where necessary to translate cases where information is not always clear Contact clinical staff as necessary for clarification of information within source documentation where there is ambiguity Participate in feedback sessions with the Directorate Team regarding outcomes of internal departmental audits. Liaise with all staff, both clinical and clerical to raise issues surrounding all aspects of the coding process and to clarify coding issues raised. Cover for fellow colleagues as and when required. Raise complex coding issues with the Trust Data Quality Team to ensure correct coding resolution is reached following the Trust and CCS national coding query mechanism. Be aware and open to translating information of a distressing nature Review the discharge letters of patients prior to discharge to ensure data quality is correct, and address issues immediately if incorrect. Maintain databases and/or departmental spreadsheets Ensure data quality and accuracy of any information entered into information systems is maintained

oNVQ Level 2 in Business Administration or acquired equivalent experience
