Job summary The Central Specimen Reception at St James' Centre for Laboratory Medicine are looking to recruit a number of B2 biomedical support workers to join our busy team for 12 months to support our GP sample work flow. We have deliveries from Leeds and Bradford GP surgeries early evening and require a bespoke team to accept these samples into Pathology.
Main duties of the job The main task is data entry. Details from request forms are scanned into a Laboratory Information System. Attention to detail and an ability to work through high volumes of data entry requests will be essential skills along with working as a vital member of a team.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Pathology Department are based in purpose-built facilities. Both LGI and SJH benefit from the latest automation tech to support our local population of around 2.3 million and the services we support nationally. We work 24/7, 365 days a year as a busy team who are the first point of contact for patient diagnostic samples.
We are constantly looking to improve our services and using the latest technology available. Our future automation plans will reduce the amount of manual inputting from paper to computer. The next step will be a major change requiring long term project support and investment. This new team will be our supportive link until this new method is ready for implementation.
What you will bring to the role The post holder will be a member of a large team responsible for the initial processing of patient samples. You will be required to communicate effectively with colleagues in CSR, wider pathology and other health care professionals.
Operating the laboratory IT system (Winpath), to enter and retrieve patient demographics.
To load blood samples onto automation racks for handing over to the appropriate speciality lab.
General end of shift house keeping.
