Due to team expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced pharmacy professional to join our team as a Band 6 Dispensary Manager within the outpatient dispensary of a busy acute NHS hospital, offering an excellent opportunity to develop leadership, management and operational skills within a fast paced hospital environment.
You will play a key role in coordinating the day-to-day operational management of the dispensary, ensuring efficient workflows and delivery of a safe, high quality patient focused service. You will support service development, workforce management, and compliance with regulatory and governance standards.
Our Pharmacy department has an establishment of over 100 members and enjoys an excellent reputation within the Trust . We are an innovative and forward-thinking department who have over recent years invested in a host of technical improvements to enhance service delivery and patient care. The department is friendly, progressive and constantly expanding. This is an exciting time to be joining the team as electronic prescribing and medicines administration EPMA is fully embedded and we use Quality Improvement QI methodology to reprofile and optimise all aspects of the pharmacy service. We support staff development and innovation, and actively encourage new ideas. We welcome and routinely implement suggestions around doing things differently to improve services and outcomes.
Main duties of the job
To lead and manage the day-to-day operational management of dispensary services.
To ensure the safe, effective and efficient supply of medicines and advice from the dispensary services.
To ensure that the service provided is patient and customer focused, and that it is delivered in accordance with the standards set by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
To develop and improve dispensary services using QI methodology and manage the implementation of new systems of service delivery.
To monitor and prepare regular reports detailing the dispensary workload, activity, key performance indicators and medicines expenditure for services.
To provide supervision, training and development to pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants and pre-registration pharmacy technicians in order to ensure quality professional standards of practice and deal with performance issues as necessary.
To manage allocated pharmacy staff including recruitment, appraisals and performance review.
To manage stock control and auditing of dispensary procedures.
To provide cross-cover of management across both pharmacy dispensaries (inpatient and outpatient) when required as appropriate.

Qualifications Essential
Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council NVQ3, BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent Extended role checking technician (or fulfils the criteria to undertake training) Management Training or experience

NVQ Assessors qualification or equivalent.
Experience Essential
In-patient/Out-patient dispensing experience Significant experience post qualification to include previous hospital experience Advanced computer keyboard/labelling skills requiring accurate data input working within narrow margins of error. Knowledge of ward/department pharmacy logistics. Knowledge of Trust/departmental policies and procedures. Critical thinking reviewing or writing SOPs and policies.
