About this role

Job summary

We are seeking a passionate person, who is committed to providing quality care to pregnant women and their families, to join our dedicated healthcare team as part of our Antenatal Clinic. As an antenatal clinic maternity support worker, you will be involved in providing comprehensive care to expectant mothers during the antenatal period. The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; to provide a safe and holistic approach to woman centred care.

You will be provided with an induction programme and full training to fulfil the role requirements.

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for providing personalised care to approximately 2,400 women during their childbirth experience.

Main duties of the job

Support midwives in providing care for women and their families within the maternity services.

Perform and record physiological measurements and report these accurately to the midwife

Provide personalised antenatal education and support to expectant mothers and their families

Promote public health issues

Prepare clinical areas

Liaise with multidisciplinary teams including senior medical staff, other departments within the trust as well as outside agencies, for women who have complex medical or obstetric needs.

Undertake phlebotomy as requested by the midwife.

Inform parents about the benefits of breastfeeding

Promote choice, wellbeing and the protection of all individuals

Person Specification

Education and qualifications Essential

A good standard of numeracy and literacy. Holds National Care Certificate (Band 3) or be willing to undertake and complete within 12 weeks or starting (Band 2 whilst completing)

Desirable

Evidence of relevant educational achievements. NVQ in Health care Basic IT qualification National Care Certificate holder Functional skills level 1 Maths and English or GCSE equivalent

Experience and knowledge Essential

Significant and relevant work/social experience which has utilised skills and knowledge that could be of benefit to post. Ability to work independently under indirect supervision. Ability to work with people as part of a multi- disciplinary team. An understanding of the organisation of midwifery care. Basic understanding of NHS issues. Basic IT skills

Desirable

Can provide evidence of achieved competency of key clinical skills Previous experience of working within maternity, childcare or women's health field. BFI 2 day training workshop

Skills and abilities Essential

To be willing to undertake training to be competent in the roles and responsibilities outlined in the job description.
