About this role

Job summary

You will work across the Trust undertaking a clinical role in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of services for children and young people up until their 18th birthday.

You will contribute and participate in multidisciplinary assessments ensuring a person-centred approach when delivering care.

To provide a first line response to referrals, providing where necessary, a health and social care needs assessment, meeting the needs already identified in a health and social care needs assessment.

To ensure accurate mental health risk assessments are carried out on admission, discharge and at reviews.

There is an expectation for education staff education at mandatory training and clinical nurse specialist days.

Data collection for sharing at departmental meetings and trust wide forums to ensure paediatric mental health remains as a priority.

Main duties of the job

Assist the Ward/Department manager in maintaining standards of practice for any child or young person attending with an identified mental health need and/or complex psychological need. Ensuring practice is in accordance with the professional code of conduct, as well as local and national guidance.

To lead in the implementation of robust risk assessments and care plans for patients who are identified with an eating disorder/disordered eating and children/young people with an identified mental health need and/or complex psychological need.

Advise/supervise other staff members in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluating of nursing care specifically in relation to managing patients with an eating disorder/disordered eating and children/young people with an identified mental health need and/or complex psychological need.

Person Specification

Qualifications/training and professional development Essential

Registered Mental Health Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register or Registered Practitioner/Social Worker Completed a mentorship programme or equivalent Evidence of continuing professional development and maintenance of a personal professional file

Desirable

Completed the Independent and Supplementary Prescribing Level 7 course with a valid V300 registration recorded with the NMC or willing and able to undertake this within 12 months of starting in post

Experience Essential

Post registration experience Significant experience at Band 6 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty (Children & Young People) Experience of managing and leading a team in a clinical area relevant to the role Experience of taking a lead role in change management/development of new projects Experience in managing a caseload with individuals 16 and under

Desirable

Experience in independently prescribing medications

Skills, abilities and knowledge Essential

Advanced skills in assessing patients with complex mental health needs and creating safety management plans to manage risk and facilitate discharge In depth knowledge of appropriate legislation including Mental Health Act 1983, 2007 and Children's Act 1989

Desirable

Advanced clinical note writing skills in relation to assessment findings/outcomes and risk assessments
